Is Domaine De La Romanee-Conte 1945 The Most Expensive Wine Bottle Ever Sold?

With the latest fine Wine and Spirit Sotheby’s auction, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti placed itself on the headlines for being the most expensive wine bottle in the world to be ever sold. The release of this news shattered all the previous official world records of the category.

On this, worldwide head of Sotheby’s wine department, Jamie Ritchie said, “The demand for wine and spirits of exceptional quality is at an all-time high, and that global collectors are willing to go the extra mile to acquire the rarest bottles of any kind.”

According to the reports, the two bottles of wine of Romanee-Conti 1945 of the private cellars of Robert Drouhin were sold for a total sum of US$ 1.05 million, becoming the most expensive wine ever sold. With this, Sotheby’s wine and spirit totalled its sales, for the first time, to more than US$100 million. After the sale of the bottles, the sale totalled to five times than the estimated one million US dollar to US$7.3 million. This sale has equalled to the complete sales of Drouhin’s of the rare Domaine de la Romanee.
