Alfio Marchini was born in Rome in 1965 and is an entrepreneur, politician, and Italian polo player. He is the grandson of the partisan Gappista Alfio Marchini, who led the Roman Resistance, earning the 'Military Order of Italy’.
Born in Rome into a family of builders, close to the Italian Communist Party, he attended the Massimiliano Massimo Institute and the College of St. Joseph - De Merode Institute.

Marchini began working during higher studies alongside his grandfather Alfio "senior" and the great-uncle Alvaro Marchini, former president of Rome. He took over the leadership of the family company in 1989 after the death of his grandfather which was even before completing his studies in civil engineering at 23 years at the University of Rome La Sapienza. Since 1998, he has been driving the entrepreneurial activities of the family, especially outside Italy.

Marchini was passionate about polo and played the sport at a competitive level for years in the Roman team 'Loro Piana Blue'. A very ambitious and gifted polo player, he became the captain and patron of the Italian international team.
