CELEBRATING ITS 110 YEARS OF EXISTENCE:THE POLO CLUB OF DEAUVILLE

Tradition in Deauville, the royal game of polo appeared in Europe at the end of the XIXth century imported from India by the British, when people were seen hitting a ball all around the racecourse. Celebrating its 110 years of existence in August, The Polo Club of Deauville was then born in 1907.

Tradition in Deauville, the royal game of polo appeared in Europe at the end of the XIXth century imported from India by the British, when people were seen hitting a ball all around the racecourse. Celebrating its 110 years of existence in August, The Polo Club of Deauville was then born in 1907.

1950 the polo club started with the creation of the Gold Cup by François André, whose founder was the Barrière Group. With a tournament of all the great players and patrons, tall the legend champions come to Deauville like the Adolfo Cambiaso, Heguy and Pieres families, Merlos’, Gracidas’, etc.

Deauville being one of the most renown city of horse in France for races, show jumping, dressage and polo, composes of a rich equestrian agenda through all year, but also provides a seaside resort, a spot to relax and enjoy the luxuries of the game and the place. In these spirits, Deauville International Polo Club’s organizers freshen the prestigious Gold Cup of the 67th edition of the Barrière Deauville Polo Cup taking place next August 1st and ends on the 27th.

This year the game will feature four main headliners, among the others participating like Argentina h9 Sapo Caset, h7 Francisco Elizalde and also h8 Juan Ruiz Guiñazu and Francisco Pancho Bensadon who would play with his son Rufino, representing the new generation, four players who have dominated the Abierto de Argentina. Tito Guiñazu was the winner of the Gold Cup in 2015 also the finalist of 2016 cup, were noticed at the Argentinian top level last year when they reached the quarterfinals of the Abierto, qualifying for next edition.

Jean-Edouard Mazery continues his presidency, taking unique care for conviviality, without compromising on the Quality of the sports event, growing the reputation of the Deauville International Polo Club beyond national borders.

Deauville International Polo Club’s team will host other main sportive event this year like the Ladies Cup (ladies polo, August 9th to 12th), and the Bronze Cup (8 goals, August 14th to 25th). 22 teams are expected to be playing this summer in Deauville, 4 in the Silver Cup, 6 in the Gold Cup, 4 or 6 in the Ladies Cup and 8 in the Bronze Cup: a record on some of the lovely rehabilitated fields of Dozulé.

The three Beach Polo encounters are scheduled beyond the grasslands with an introduction to this discipline for vacationers on the sand at low tide.With an idea of getting closer to the public for better recognition of the sports among people, two team will march past through the street of Deauville on August 12th on the day of the start of the Deauville Ladies Polo Cup finale and also on August 26th, day before the Gold Cup finale. Celebrating the festivity would be thousands of spectators who come each year to discover polo and cheer for the players.

For the players, fraternities members etc, polo is a game to party and cherish the sporty vibes on the sides of the field at the racecourse of La Touques, where the public is welcome at the prize giving ceremony next to the bar of the main welcome tent.

Other surprises will be the highlights of these three weeks of celebrating the oldest team sport in Deauville.
