El Remanso Hoists the 2018 King Power Gold Cup
Once again the culmination of the Cowdray Park Gold Club on 22nd July 2018, sponsored by Thailand’s leading travel retail group, King Power marked the pinnacle of high-goal polo in Britain by attracting a humongous crowd of 15000 spectators.Vanquishing ten other highly aggressive teams, El Remanso and La Bamba de Areco emerged victorious in two fierce semifinal matches played on 18 July 2018. While El Remanso defeated La Indiana, the winners of the Carties cup by 14-13, Bamba de Areco crushed Ben Soleimani’s RH Polo team by 10-9.

The second chukker raised the excitement for the Bamba de Areco fans as Watson and Beim seemed under full control of the ball, while passing it to Nero, James Harper’s immaculate back-hand shot did not only stun Nero but also added dismay to Bamba de areco fans as the ball went straight to the goal post making the scoreboard at 7-4. However the game turn-upside down within absolutely no time through an exceedingly excellent and effervescent play by Watson and Nero from the Bamba de areco. Together they lifted to the team from the dismal dregs of defeat to the threshold of victory by converting 2 penalties in their favour and bringing their team ahead by 12-10 at the end of fifth chukker.

The final chukker saw El Remanso putting in all their efforts to prevent the game slipping from their hand and a marvelous teamwork between the player finally helped them to equalise the game at 12-12 with a smacking hit by Harper. As the final minutes approached nearer, both the teams anxiously tried to secure a goal but the ultimate luck reigned in favour of El Remanso when Cudmore sent the ball glibly to post generating a resounding uproar in the El Remanso fans.



A new prize introduced for the Best Playing Patron’s Pony, donated by sponsors King Power, was presented by Marcos di Paola of King Power to Charlie Hanbury’s pony Lovelocks Sex. The reward for Best Playing Pony of the match, offered by the Hon Lila Pearson, was given to Blanca Nueve, owned by Pelon Stirling and played by Polito Pieres. Jon Rudkin, Director of Football for Leicester City Football Club, also possessed by sponsors King Power,was invited to distribute the individual and team prizes on behalf of King Power. Charlie Hanbury was voted Most Valuable Player of the Final with four brilliant goals to his credit. All the umpires and commentators who provided their noteworthy contribution throughout the season were accoladed by Jon Rudkin. Jon Rudkin presented the coveted cup to the Patron of the winning team Charlie Hanbury who shared the victorious moment with his family.
