Defending Champions Valiente faced Colorado in the finals of the C.V. Whitney Cup 4th March, 2018 Wellington, Florida The final match of the 26 goal tournament - Sterling Cup saw the defending champions Valiente take on Colorado at the International Polo Club Palm Beach in Wellington, Florida. Fresh after winning the Ylvisaker Cup, Valiente proved to be an unstoppable force and played with great desire and vigour to lift the first 26-goal tournament of the season as they beat Colorado by 9 goals to 4. Valiente boasted probably the strongest lineup of the year with the top two rated players : Adolfo Cambiaso and Facundo Pieres playing in their first ever cup final ever. And as expected the two combined brilliantly to give Valiente a 5- nil lead at halftime. From 70 yard long shots to close range tap ins, the pair worked in perfect sync and tore apart the Colorado defence in more ways than one. Diego Cavanagh tried his level best to get his team on the scoresheet and finally got his reward in the fourth chukker as he scored twice and another in the fifth , but Cambiaso and Pieres proved too good a combination as they played in full throttle to triple their lead and headed into the final chukker at 9-3. The final chukker saw Valiente win the match by 9 goals to 4, thereby claiming their second consecutive C.V. Whitney Cup. Facundo Pieres was named Most Valuable Player as he scored five of Valiente’s nine goals. The Best Playing Pony award was given to Mentolada, owned by J5 Equestrian and ridden by Adolfo Cambiaso in the third chukker.
