Polo Action on Day 2 of The General Amar Singh Kanota Cup

The second day of the Kanota Cup was full of action. Three games were played on the day. It was a good day for all the Polo lovers.

Polo Action on Day 2 of The General Amar Singh Kanota Cup

Jaipur, Rajasthan – The first match of the second day saw Krishna Polo team play against Mustang Polo team at 3:00 pm on September 19. Mustang Polo team played with a total of +7 handicap in an 8 goal match. Three matches were planned for Day two of the cup and some brilliant polo action was in-store for the Polo lovers. Krishna Polo team stood strong with Samir Suhag (+5), Vishal Singh (+3), Vandit Golecha (0) and Ashvini Sharma (0) playing for them. Mustang Polo team on the other side had Th Lokendra Singh Rathore (+3), Dhananjai Singh Rathore (+2), Vishwaraj Singh Bhati (+1) and Br Janmejai Singh Rathore (+1) playing for them. The scoreboard showed the score 0.5 – 0 at the start of the match. Mustang polo team were given a lead of 0.5 point as they were playing with 1 less handicap. The 8-goal match was quite intense and was a no winner in the first half. But Krishna Polo team played wonderfully in the second half and grabbed the match with both hands.


Vishal Singh scored the first goal of the match in the first chukker and that was the only goal scored in that chukker. The first chukker ended on a score of 1 – 0.5. The second chukker also opened with a goal from Vishal Singh which extended Krishna Polo team’s lead and the score was 2 – 0.5. Mustang Polo team quickly recovered the loss and a goal from Vishwaraj Singh Bhati took the score to 2 – 1.5. The first half ended with Krishna Polo team in the lead by 3 – 1.5.


The second half opened with a goal from Ashvini Sharma for the Krishna Polo team, extending the lead to 4 – 1.5. Goals from Samir Suhag and Vandit Golecha confirmed the victory for Krishna Polo team. The third chukker ended with Krishna Polo team in the lead by 6 -1.5. The fourth chukker was full of action with 6 goals being scored in the last chukker. Krishna Polo team continued scoring and their lead was extended to 9 – 1.5 until Mustang Polo team were able to score a consolation goal. Vishal Singh, Samir Suhag and Ashvani Sharma scored three goals for Krishna Polo team until Vishwaraj Singh Bhati scored one for Mustang Polo team. The goals were still coming in the last minutes and the match ended on a score of 11 – 2.5 with the last two goals being scored by Vandit Golecha. Krishna Polo team played brilliantly to beat Mustang Polo team.
 

Riverside Polo win the second match of the day.

 

The second match of the day saw Riverside Polo compete against Khas Bagh Polo team on September 19 at 4:00 pm. Khas Bagh Polo team played with Kr Ransher Singh Rathore (+2), Vicky Nihalani (+2) in the first half, Lockendra (0) in the second half, Tarun Bilwal (+2) and Sunny Patel on their side. Riverside Polo stood strong with Simran Shergill (+6), Bhawani Kalvi (+2), Kuldeep Singh (+2) and Sameer Meecca (-2) playing for the team. In an 8 goal match, Khas bagh Polo team played with a total of +7. They were awarded a 0.5-point lead before the start of the match so the match started on a score of 0.5 – 0, with Khas Bagh Polo team in the lead. Riverside Polo looked strong from the start of the match and the results also showed the same.



The first goal of the first chukker was scored by Kuldeep Singh for Riverside Polo team helping the team to take a lead. But Riverside couldn’t maintain for long as Tarun Bilwal scored one for the Khas Bagh Polo team. The score was 1 – 1.5 with Khas Bagh Polo team in the lead. The first chukker ended with Riverside in the lead by 2 – 1.5. Sunny Patel scored one more for the Khas Bagh Polo team, helping them take a lead by 2 – 2.5. Bhawani Kalvi, Sameer Mecca and Simran Shergill score one goal each in the second chukker to end the chukker with a lead. The second chukker ends with Riverside Polo team in the lead by 5 – 2.5.


Second half of the match was completely one-sided with one team dominating the other. Only one goal was scored in the third chukker of the match. Simran Shergill scored one more for the Riverside Polo to extend their lead. The third chukker ended with Riverside Polo in the lead by 6 – 2.5. Riverside Polo continued their aggression in the fourth chukker and scored three goals in the last chukker. Sameer Meecca opened the fourth chukker with a goal taking the lead to 7 – 2.5. Khas Bagh weren’t able to score in the last chukker and two late goals from Simran Shergill helped Riverside Polo finish the match in style. The match ended with Riverside Polo winning by 9 – 2.5.
 

 

An incredible victory for Jaipur Polo team

 

 

The last match of Day 2 was played between Jaipur Polo team and Chandna Group at 5:00 pm. Both the teams looked strong and the match was nothing less than a delight. It was a no-winner till the last minute. Jaipur Polo team played with Abhimanyu Pathak (+5), HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh (+3), Pratap Kanota (+2) and Jems (-2). Chandna Group had Gerardo Mazzini (+6), Anagad Kalaan (+3), Ashok Chandna (+1) and Sanjay Jakhar (-2) playing against Jaipur Polo team. Both the teams played with a total of 8 handicap. Chandna Group were playing with a lead till the last minute but Jaipur came out strong and won the match. It was an intense and aggressive match and the audience were on their toes till the last minute.

Match opened with a goal from Anagad Kalaan for Chandna Group to give them a lead in the first chukker. Gerardo Mazzini scored the second one for the team to increase their lead to 2 – 0. Jaipur Polo team weren’t able to score a goal in the first chukker. The first chukker ended with Chandna Group in the lead by 2 – 0. Gerardo Mazzini scored one more to take the score to 3 – 0. Jaipur Polo team came back in the game with a goal from Abhimanyu Pathak to take the score to 3 – 1. Gerardo Mazzini replied them back with a goal and the scoreboard now showed a score of 4 – 1. HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh’s goals in the last minutes of the first half helped Jaipur get in the game. The first chukker ended with Chandna Group in the lead by 4 – 3.



Pratap Kanota scored one in the start of the third chukker to help Jaipur level the scores. Gerardo Mazzini scored one more to help Chandna Group take back the lead. A goal from HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh ensured that the game came to level. The scoreboard now showed the score of 5 – 5. A goal from Anagad Kalaan in the end of the third chukker gave Chandna Group a slight edge over Jaipur Polo team before the last chukker. Abhimanyu Pathak opened the fourth chukker with a goal and brought the game to the level. The score was now 6 – 6 and either team could win the game. Gerardo Mazzini scored one for Chandna Group to help them take a crucial lead. Two goals from Abhimanyu Pathak in the last minutes ensured the victory for Jaipur Polo team. Jaipur won the nerve-wracking match by 8 – 7.
