A classic match took place between Abu Dhabi Polo team and Desert Palm in the finals of the HH President of the UAE Cup at Ghantoot Racing and Polo Club. Left behind by two goals in the last chukker of the finals by the score of 6-4, Abu Dhabi Polo team made a sensational comeback and smashed in three goals back to back without giving any chance to their opponent Desert Palm to answer. Abu Dhabi Polo team left the Desert Palm’s teenage stars, Camilo Castagnola and Bartolome Castagnola in tears.
Abu Dhabi team were the big favourites to win four-team ‘Royal Signature’ tournament as they were the winners of the Emirates Open Polo Championship in December last year. But a different story unfolded as the powerhouse squad with team patron, Faris Al Yabhouni, has forged, threw away the early advantage and allowed an exuberant Desert Palm to control the run of play.
However, Abu Dhabi pulled two goals back and converted a penalty with just 20 seconds remaining, to leave Desert Palm behind, and claim victory at the final whistle. Argentine high-handicapped Alfredo Cappela Barabucci (+9) was the top scorer with 4 goals, while fellow Argentine professionals Santiago Cernadas (+6) struck 2 and Santiago Gomez Romero (+3) one goal. .
Santiago Laborde led the scoring for Desert Palm with 4 goals but it was Camilo who played the game of his life while running circles around his more experienced opponents and also scored two beautiful goals. .
