The Julius Baer Gold Cup 2018 , an 18 goal handicap competition is one of the UAE’s that’s recognized and certified by the World Polo Tour and is played under the banner of Hurlingham Polo Association.
Abu Dhabi took on Wolves while Zedan Polo took on UAE Polo in a thrilling double action opening day at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club.
The first match saw Abu Dhabi cruise to victory against Wolves. Abu Dhabi were 3 nil up by the end of the first chukker. The second chukker saw them extend their lead to 5-1 as Wolves managed to score their first. The third chukker was a tight affair as we saw just one goal scored by Wolves to make it 5-2. Wolves looked set to make a comeback in the final chukker as they reduced the deficit to just two goals by the end of the fourth. However, Abu Dhabi managed to score twice and won the match by 8 goals to 5.
The second match saw the McLaren Cup winners and defending champions of the Gold Cup - Zedan Polo rake on UAE polo in a thrilling encounter. The first chukker was as even as it gets with the score being 2-2 by the end of it. Zedan took the lead in the second chukker to make it 5-3. Both the teams scored twice in the third chukker to make the score 7-5 before Zedan Polo ran riot to make it 13-5 by the end of the fourth. UAE managed to score four in the final chukker however, it was too little too late and Zedan Polo ran away winners by 13 goals to 9.
