Nothing makes for an exciting day than an intense match of Polo for the residents of the Royal city.“A Polo match in the heart of the Royal City.” The residents of Patiala witnessed an exciting Polo match on the final day of the heritage festival. A Polo match of Royals at the Polo and Riding Club Grounds in Patiala was a treat to the eyes for the audience and the highlight of the Heritage Festival. Capt. Amarinder Singh, the chief minister of Punjab, along with his wife and former Union Minister, Preneet Kaur attended the royal match. The chief guest at the match between Bahadurgarh and Qila Mubarak, Capt. Amarinder Singh enjoyed the match and presented the winning team with the trophy.

The nail-biting match between teams Qila Mubarak and Bahadurgarh kicked off with Team Bahadurgarh pressing the other team with possession and attack. The first chukker witnessed Team Bahadurgarh dominate the game completely as Capt. Anant Rajpurohit marked a brilliant play for the team. Team Bahadurgarh scored three goals in the first two chukkers while Team Qila Mubarak opened their scoring account in the third chukker. Leading by 3 goals to nil, Team Bahadurgarh entered the field with confidence and dominance in the third chukker but managed to score just one goal while Team Qila Mubarak took advantage of the loose defence tactics of Team Bahadurgarh and scored three goals in the chukker.

The fourth chukker was quite intense as the lead for Team Bahadurgarh was decreased to just one goal. The last chukker of the match saw a handful of goals scored by both the teams. Scoring three goals in the last chukker, Team Bahadurgarh switched the play to defence and allowed Qila Mubarak to score just two goals. Team Bahadurgarh won the battle by 7-5 and lifted the Patiala Heritage Polo Cup. The Patiala Heritage festival ended with a great game of Polo and the students of Punjab Public School showcasing their equestrian skills. The Patiala Heritage Polo Cup started with a military band performance and the presentation ceremony saw Capt. Amrinder Singh presenting the winning team, Team Bahadurgarh, with the trophy.

After the match ceremony, the chief minister of Punjab tweeted, “Watching these young men play the polo match in Patiala brought back memories of my own playing days. Have decided to go back to the sport next month with a match of 70+ polo players.”
