Sarting from horse breeding to becoming the world’s largest vaccine maker, their legacy involves dreams, determination and strong vision.

The awards Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla has received reflects his diverse and distinctive personality. From the BioSpectrum Person of the Year Award, to the Equestrian Hall of Fame Award to Padma Shri Award, the journey of Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla has been a never ending voyage in an unsinkable yacht.

Half a century ago, when breeding horses in India was at its inception, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla’s father and founder Soli A. Poonawalla, carried a long vision to establish Poonawalla Stud Farm. With the passage of time, that vision has changed into reality in leaps and bounds.

Today, the Poonawala Stud Farm stand as the leading stud farm in the country. The farms owns the pride of winning 12 “Champion Breeders” Awards of which the last seven have been won in straight succession.
Poonawalla’s thoroughbred, in the world of horse racing, has had a lineage of achievements, comprising winners of 9 Indian Derbies and 68 Indian Classics. The horses are unstoppable and so are their masters, so much so that they went on establishing a new concept called ‘Poonawalla Breeders Multi-million’, inspired by the Cartier Million in Australia and Ireland. Backed up by the Indian Breeders, they took this mega project under their canopy and nurtured the events ever since. The objective behind coming up with this project was to boost Indian thoroughbred racing and bringing in a festive atmosphere.



On 5th of October 2009 at the International Horse Racing Conference in Paris, Dr. Poonawala was honored with “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his immense contribution to breeding and horse racing.
Besides his love for horses, he shares his passion for making the cheapest vaccines in the whole world. At an early age of 22, when most of the youngsters crave for accumulating worldly desires, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla was confined towards making this world a healthy place to survive in. He dedicated himself towards making life-saving drugs. Currently, Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla manages the 750-crore Poonawalla Group that covers a diverse section from engineering and horse breeding to pharmaceutical industry that supplies drugs to 137 countries.


 

 

This is an amazing company and its work has dramatically lowered the cost of these vaccines. It is a true contribution by India to the well-being of the world.

Son to Dr. Cyrus Poonawala, Adar Poonawalla strives to hold the reign of sectors beyond horses, cars and vaccines. The 35-year old executive director and CEO of Serum Institute of India, recently launched a Rs 100-crore clean city drive in Pune.



The renowned family which recently bought Mumbai’s symbolic Lincoln House at Breach Candy for 700 crore from the US government, is also contemplating on education, clean energy and environment as new courses.
