Who Gets Through To The Semis Of The 20-Goal Ylvisaker Cup?
The final group stage of the Ylvisaker Cup featured four quick-paced, high-intensity matchups to determine the four semifinalists. The 1st Half of the day saw dominant performances by the pre-qualified teams of Pilot and Patagones. Pilot won their match with a 9 point margin over the SD Farms (Final Score: 15-6) while the Patagones defeated Coca- Cola by 13-9 in 2 one-sided matches.

The 2nd half of the day made for 2 nail-biting matches, both of which were for the undecided spots of the semi-finals.

La Indiana V/S Iconica

La Indiana’s Faucundo Obregon(+6), Michael Bickford(+1), Toly Ulloa(+3) and Jeff Hall(+7) put out one of the most synchronized team performances of the season which ultimately led them to outperform Iconica. The four contributed equally on both sides of the court. The pairing of Michael Bickford & Toly Ulloa made a combined 12 shots which turned out to be the decisive factor in giving La Indiana a 3 point lead over Iconica at the final whistle.

1st Chukker
La Indiana starts the game with 1 point advantage over Iconica due to the disparity in the combined handicaps of the two teams. Iconica successfully created opportunities, outshooting La Indiana with a swift attack, scoring twice before the 3-minute mark in the 1st Chukker. However, the attack was contained by the duo of Ulloa and Bickford and La Indiana began with an offense of their own, scoring twice in quick succession before the end of the 1st Chukker. The score at the end of the 1st Chukker was 3-2.

2nd & 3rd Chukker
The 2nd Chukker saw a continuous back and forth between the 2 sides. Both teams scored 1 goal each before the end of the Chukker. In the 3rd Chukker, La Indiana was finally able to put some difference between them and the Iconica by scoring twice. Ulloa and Hall were successful with their attacks and gave La Indiana a lead of 3 at the conclusion of the 3rd Chukker. The score at the end of the Chukker was 6-3.

4th & 5th Chukker
Iconica was itching to make a comeback at the beginning of the 4th chukker and take control of the remainder of the game. Iconica’s Sebastian Marlos scored back-to-back and reduced La Indiana’s lead to a single goal. They also showed their defensive prowess after a brutal first half, allowing only a single goal to slip by their defensive line. Following an action packed 4th Chukker, the 5th was comparatively quieter as none of the teams were successful in converting generated opportunities into a score. The score after the 5th chukker was 7-5, with La Indiana leading by two.

6th Chukker
The first goal of the 6th Chukker was scored by Iconica’s Maureen Brennan. After that, La Indiana tightened their defensive end and didn’t let Iconica lead another successful offense. Obregon and Hall of La Indiana then scored one goal each, making the final score 9-6.

After a match filled with excitement, La Indiana was successful in securing a spot in the Semi-final.

Dutta Corp. V/S Tonkawa

Dutta Corp V/S Tonkawa was essentially a defensive showcase of Polo. Both the teams presented an exceptionally tight defensive line but the Dutta Corp was able to edge out Tonkawa with their well-mounted offense. They didn’t let Tonkawa register anything on the scoreboard in the first half of the game and Timmy Dutta and Lucas Diaz Alberdi of Dutta Corp were able to score twice each. After a slow first half, Tonkawa mounted a comeback in the second half by securing three successive goals from penalties. But they were unable to gain momentum as this offense was soon shut down by Dutta, who scored another goal before time.

Final Score: 8-6 win for Dutta Corp.

Pilot V/S SD Farms

Pilot continued their undefeated streak in the tournament by dominated SD Farms in the first match of the day. The major key to Pilot’s success was the performance of Facundo Pieres, who maintained his elite form and single-handedly scored 8 goals, which is more than SD Farms’ combined 6.

Final Score: 15-6 win for Pilot.

Patagones V/S Coca- Cola

The game began with a promising start for Coca- Cola, who scored the first two goals of the game in quick succession. However, the lead was only short-lived for them as Patagones came back with 6 consecutive goals and asserted their dominance on the field. The overwhelming response followed by a balanced attack was too much for Coca Cola and they were unable to contain Patagones offense throughout the match. It was a valiant effort, but the day seemed to favor the pre-qualified Patagones, who extended their win streak with an excellent performance.

Final Score: 13-9 win for the Patagones.
