Officers from the Scottish senior regiment took part in the exhibition polo match in Perth shire to raise funds for injured and sick veterans. The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards took on the prestigious St Andrews University Polo Club at the annual fundraiser organised at Errol Park, Perth shire.

The fund raising event, a team up with Help for Heroes charity has been running for more than ten years now. Launched in 2007, Help for Heroes tries to provide better facilities for UK servicemen and women who have been wounded or injured in the line of duty. It was founded by Bryn Parry OBE and his wife Emma Parry OBE after they visited soldiers at Selly Oak Hospital in Birmingham.

“Since the St Andrews Charity Polo Tournament’s revitalization in 2015, we as an organisation have been proud of our steady partnership with Help for Heroes. Each year presents a new opportunity to not only give to such an important cause, but also to give the charity a new platform to spread their message. It can’t be said enough the contribution these men and women give to the UK — we’re just proud to help in any way we can.” said Student organised Quinn Master son.

It is the largest polo tournament in Scotland, with over 10 teams from across UK taking part and crowds of upto 1,200 in attendance.

Ailsa Alcock, Help for Heroes’ income manager for Scotland, added: “Help for Heroes is hugely grateful to St Andrews University and all those involved in the Polo Tournament for everything they have done to support the Charity. We rely heavily on the generous donations raised which directly helps rebuild lives. We’d like to thank everyone who has donated and helped support our beneficiaries and hopefully everyone had lots of fun at the event.”

Hundreds of spectators enjoyed high quality polo and photo opportunities with the Help for Heroes mascot. There were a variety of food stalls for the spectators and this year’s fund raiser looked set to smash the total raised at the 2017 event.
