On the opening day of the tournament, the first round of Zone A and Zone B matches ensued. The first match of the day was between La Aguada Las Monjitas and Irentia
The subsequent match was between La Irenita and La Dolfina to determine the second team for the Zone A finals, where in La Dolfina won the match with a score of 20-6. For Zone B, Ellerstina and CriaYatay competed to qualify for the Zone B finals. Ellerstinaprevailed with a score of 15-3.
Despite the roadblocks face by AAP this year pertaining to re-scheduled semi-finals, courtesy of bad weather, the finals were a success. The Finals between La Dolfina & Ellerstina took place on the scheduled Saturday, October 7, at the field 1 of Campo Argentino de Polo in Palermo. The match started with an intense first chukka, where in both the teams scored 1-1. The following chukkas however saw La Dolfina steadily outscoring, finally taking the title of defeating champions at the Tortugas Open for the fifth consecutive season. The final score at Tortugas Finals was 12-5 and winners of Most Valued Player & Best Performing Pony went to Pablo Mac Donough and CloneCuartetera 05.(Played by Adolfo Cambiaso), respectively. The goal progression went as follows: 1-1, 2-1, 4-1, 6-2, 8-3, 9-4, 12-5. La Dolfina with their team of Polo virtuosos, namely Adolfo Cambiaso 10 (7 goals, 3 penalties), PelonStirling 10, Pablo Mac Donough 10 (3), Juan Martín Nero 10 (2, 1 penalty), proved once again their dominance over the Argentine Polo scene.
Apart from a vibrant season, Tortugas Open also saw some major changes when the Argentine Polo Association (AAP) modified the existing rules. The most prominent of which were the limitations imposed on reruns, reducing the playing time per period, penalties on attack and offensive blockades and introduction of temporary expulsion.
Though radical, the changes have been received gracefully by the Argentine Polo Community. This exhibits the ever-evolving nature of Polo and the acceptance that the community extends.
