Meydan Racecourse hosted it’s first race meeting of the 2017- 18 season on Thursday November 9th.
However, the highlight of the UAE Polo season is the 23rd running of the Dubai World Cup, which is to be held on Saturday March 31, 2018. The US $40m race day is the biggest sporting and social occasion of the Dubai calendar, is the world’s richest day of racing and is held at Meydan Racecourse on the last Saturday in March. The festivities of the Dubai World Cup day are set to end with the spectacular Dubai World Cup show and live music concert. The Dubai World Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually since 1996 and contested at the Meydan Racecourse Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
It is a Group 1 flat race on dirt for Northern Hemisphere Thoroughbred four-year- olds & up and for Southern Hemisphere Thoroughbred three-year- olds & up run over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 10 furlongs) in late March.
Annually held on the last Saturday of March, the Dubai World Cup Night of races, has carried a course if USD ten million since 2010. It was the world’s richest race till 2017, before being surpassed by Pegasus World Cup last year.
The Dubai World Cup, the final race of Dubai World Cup night, was created in 1996 by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
