The Sydney Polo Club, Australia’s most prestigious and historic polo venues, located in Richmond NSW, is nestled at the heart of the State’s polo community on the banks of the beautiful Hawkesbury river, set within 400 acres beautifully landscaped grounds.
Eight international teams would compete for winning the crown trophy of the World Championship, in which each team consists of four-players plus one reserve player. The selected eight teams would be seen competing against each other in fourteen matches played over a six day period, the schedule of which is declared by the club as follows:
Day 1: Saturday 21 October 2017
Day 2: Sunday 22 October 2017
Day 3: Tuesday 24 October 2017
Day 4: Wednesday 25 October 2017
Day 5: Saturday 28 October 2017
Day 6: Sunday 29 October 2017 (Finals)
Chile is the reigning World Champion, having won the 2015 X FIP Polo World Championship and Australia as the host nation have automatically secured their places in the competition. India finally this year has qualified for the finals after a long gap of wins becoming the final country to qualify with hard earned win over Pakistan by 1 goal. The final list of teams participating in the WPC are Argentina, Australia, Chile, England, India, New Zealand, Spain, and USA.
The final eight teams would be placed within 2 x pools of 4, in two groups mainly Group A and Group B. Each team will be playing 3 matches within the league in an order of determining the eventual winners of each league. The winners of Group A and B will progress to the Championship final to be played on Sunday 29th October with the winner being crowned World Champion.
Each member would be given a string of ponies consisting of one pony per chukka, plus one reserve pony. The polo ponies for this prestigious and unique event are sourced nationally, donated by Australian polo players, many of them represent iconic families that have a proud long-standing associated with the sport.
