India qualifies for the WPC

India's qualification to WPC was a historic mark in our history of the sport. India emerged winners of the Zonal Play Offs for Zone ‘E’ beating Pakistan by 8 goals to 7 goals in the exciting and thrilling match played on 7th July 2017 at Tehran, Iran and entered into the finals of the World Cup Polo Championship

La Dolfina win their fifth consecutive Tortugas Open

La Dolfina created history by winning the title for the fifth year running. Apart from a vibrant season, Tortugas Open also saw some major changes when the Argentine Polo Association (AAP) modified the existing rules. The most prominent of which were the limitations imposed on reruns, reducing the playing time per period, penalties on attack and offensive blockades and introduction of temporary expulsion.

Eduardo Novillo Astrada elected AAP president

The Asociación Argentine de Polo elected their new president during the 94th General ordinary Assembly at Campo Argentina de Polo en Palermo on May 30th 2017. Eduardo Novillo Astrada succeeded Francisco E. Dorignac. His administration set to modernise polo and do things differently.

The Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club hosts the Gold Cup for the first time ever !

2017 also marked the union of Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club with the Gold Cup Series as it hosted the gold cup for the first time. The tournament was held at its new home ground at the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club, Dubai’s first luxury polo and equestrian community located in Dubai. Dubai’s premier polo tournament took place between 18th February and 10th March 2017 at it’s new permanent home ground - the Al Habtoor Polo Resort & Club as part of the Dubai Polo Gold Cup Series.

King Foxes retained the British Open Championship for the third time in a row !

King Power foxes won the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship for the third time in a row. They faced the crowd favourites El Remanso team. The 10-goal Pieres brothers Gonzalito and Facundo proved too big a task for their opponents as they helped Kind Foxes get a hat-trick of the British Gold Cup. King Power Foxes won the match by 13 goals to 8 and retained for a third year the title of British Open Champions.

Tribute to the greatest female polo player Sunny Hale

The world of Polo was shocked by the news of Sunny Hale’s passing. Sunset “Sunny” Hale , a passionate ambassador fr the players and horses of polo, passed away on February 26th, after losing a battle against caner at the age of 48. Sunny was considered the best female polo player of all time. Her passion for polo and horses was unique: she founded the American Polo Horse Association and the Women’s Championship Tournament. She was the first woman in history to win the U.S. Open Polo Championship competing alongside Adolfo Cambiaso, Lolo Castagnola , Phil Heatley and Tim Gannon. Her passing away is a great loss to the world of Polo. Thank you so much , Sunny! Rest in peace , legend.



French Triple Crown set to start in the 2018 French Season.

Deauville Polo Club & Chantilly polo club launched the first edition of the French triple crown on November 30th. The French triple crown had it’s official launch in Buenos Aires, during the Argentine Open Championship. French Triple Crown will be played in the 2018 season: Silver Cup, Gold Cup and the Open de France. The French Federation and clubs involved in the tournament came to an agreement to commercialise the Triple crown, giving the tournament added value.

Mariano Aguerre entered the US Hall of Fame

2017 also saw Mariano Aguerre enter the US Hall of Fame. He became only the fourth Argentine polo player to enter the US Hall of Fame. Mariano Aguerre is one of the only left-handed players to reach the game's top handicap and continues to have an illustrious and long career most notably as the daring mainstay of the famed White Birch team, playing alongside Peter Brant for more than 30 years.

131 years of Singapore Polo Club.

The Singapore Polo Club celebrated it’s 131st anniversary last year. Founded in 1886, during Singapore’s colonial past, the Club has a fascinating history associated with the sport. With Polo as it’s main, the club also facilitates other equestrian sports. The Club has catered to the need of the riding community , setting market benchmarks in quality while retaining it’s relaxed family-inclusive atmosphere.

La Dolfina Brava won the first Women’s Open Championship

The first Argentine Open Polo Championship for Women began in 2017 and La Dolfina Brava were crowned champions. La Dolfina defeated their unbeaten rivals, Ellerstina at the Palermo grounds, Buenos Aires. La Dolfina’s Fernandez Araujo was awarded the Most Valuable Player while Best Playing Pony was awarded to Dolfina Clone 03 Lapa.

Gilmore made history as youngest ever Australian Polo pro

At 17 years of age, Lachlan Gilmore became the youngest ever player to represent Australia in the sport of polo. The son of Glen Gilmore, the former player who captained the Australian side for more than 10 years, Lachlan or "the Fresh Prince of Scone" as he is known to his teammates including Alex Barnet, Jake Daniels, George Hill, Jack Kiely, James Lester, Daniel O'Leary and Alec White, took on Argentina, Spain and Team USA in the pool-A in the World Polo Championship held at the Sydney Polo Club .

Players inducted in the Hall of Fame

2017 also marked the inception of Ruben Gracida, Sunset “Sunny” Hale, Jimmy Newman, Roy L. Barry in the Hall of fame. The selected joined the elite group of individuals who have been honoured since the inception of the Hall of Fame in 1990. The horse Lovely Sage was also inducted in the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honours the heroes of the sport , each year inducting icons of the past and eligible living heroes into the ranks of the great.

The IPA celebrates it’s 125th anniversary

The Indian Polo Association completed 125 years of hard work and passion for the sport in 2017. The IPA was established in 1892 and has since governed the game and is responsible for all laws regulating the game of Polo in India. The IPA has been an aid and has promoted the game both nationally and Internationally. The IPA has organised many International polo series with various countries on reciprocal basis.

Argentina win the fifth world polo championship

The World Polo Championship was held in October at the Sydney Polo Club, Richmond NSW. Eight nations including India took part in the championship. Argentina beat Chile in the final by 8 goals to 7 , thanks to an overtime goal by Lucio Fernandez Ocampo at the Sydney Polo Club to claim their fifth world championship. Having already won it in 1987, 1992, 1998 & 2011, this was their fifth ever World Championship title.

La Dolfina - Argentina Open Champions for fifth year in a row

The 124th Argentine Polo Championship which started in November 2017 was once again won by La Dolfina. The championship boasts the highest number of 10 goal players in the sport and is played at the “Cathedral of Polo” , the Argentine Polo Ground in Palermo. La Dolfina defeated Ellerstina by 14 goals to 13 as Juan M Nero scored the winning goal in the final chukker. Cambiaso, Stirling, Mac Donough and Nero continued breaking records in the history of polo after winning their fifth consecutive Argentine Open.

Pablo Mac Donough won his 10th Tortugas Open

Pablo Mac Donough, who lifted the trophy for the tenth time - only one title away from Alberto Pedro Heguy's record 11 times. Pablo Mac Donough won the Tortugas Open for the 10th time ever since starting his career in the sport of Polo back in 2001. The former world Number One is just one Tortugas title away from equalling the record.

2017 was a year of making and breaking records for Adolfo Cambiaso.

Adolfo Cambiaso in the Argentine Open : 25 seasons 100 games played 83 games won 891 goals 14 titles won The world Number One created history in 2017 as he completed 100 games in the Argentine Open. This was also his 25th season. The season also saw him score his 891st goal of his career. This year he won his 14th Argentine Open.
