A Global Polo Roundup From 23rd to 29th June 2025

Here is a recap of the most prestigious and buzzworthy matches from last week that made the international polo community thrive.

1. Archie David Cup (8 Goals)

The Guards Polo Club was a witness to the UK’s leading eight-goal tournament, featuring multiple high-quality teams that ensured an electric competitive environment. 

The final game of the tournament was held between The Mirror and Copi, who had performed exceptionally well to take the ground this past Sunday. Proceeding with high caution, only 10 goals were scored in all, out of which The Mirror was able to have a bigger bite of six goals. All mallets were raised in sportsmanship, and smiles went across each player of the Mirror, who claimed this year’s title of the Archie David Cup (6-4). 

2. Sun Trophy 6 Goals

The Sun Trophy was an eventful tournament launched to be played in two formats: 6-goal and 10-goal. For the six-goal format, four teams filled with tonnes of potential shared plenty of moments on the field. 

The final game featured the team of Saviour against Saviour 2, where the former was offered a points advantage. The first chukker belonged to the side of Saviour 2, after which they fell off and conceded the lead to Saviour, who were able to keep the scoreboard ticking and eventually won the game by registering an extra 2.5 points on the board (4.5-2).

3. Sun Trophy 10 Goals

For the 10-goal format, another four teams, each filled with players renowned around the region, were also seen. 

The final game concluded with the closest possible win for any team in the game of polo. The match was between the teams of La Respelido and Aravali, where the latter started with a points advantage. Turning all odds by scoring three magnificent goals in the fourth round, the game as well as the Sun Trophy was won by Las Respelido (6-5.5).

4. Coupe Bolton (5 Goal)

Making tournaments ecstatic, France released one of its other well-known tournaments, Coupe Bolton, a 5-goal competition amongst six teams. 

The final game of the tournament was contested by 3F/Epona and La Moinerie Polo. Trying to win the game, the teams advanced at a slow pace. La Moinerie Polo was in the lead at the start of the game; however, out of nowhere, 3F/Epona scored three goals in the fourth chukker to take home the trophy of ⁠Coupe Bolton with them. 

Final Score: 3F/Epona (5-4)

5. Windy City Cup 10 Goals

Featuring only four teams, the Windy City Cup was a 10-goal tournament held at the Las Brisas Polo Club in the US.  

Only three games were played in this event, including the finals, which were contested between the hosts, Las Brisas, and Flying Changes. In this six-chukker game, twenty-three goals were scored in all, out of which Las Brisas registered thirteen goals and won the Windy City Cup of this US Polo season. 

Final Score: Las Brisas (13-10)

6. Memorial Alfonso XIII (12 Goals) 

A handful of five teams took part in this 12-goal tournament, held in Spain. The teams had several chances to prove their mettle and qualify for the knockout stages, out of which the final was played between Almasanta and Santa Quiteria. 

Both teams were in perfect sync, not only among themselves but also with each other, mirroring scores for the third, fourth, and fifth chukkers. Eventually, the game went into overtime, where Almasanta had luck on their side, and they scored the final goal of the tournament to win the Memorial Alfonso XIII Cup. 

Final Score: Almasanta (9-8)

7. Copa De Espana (8 Goals)

Among the numerous polo tournaments held in Spain, ⁠the Copa De España was hosted on two levels: one for teams of 6-8 goals and the other for teams of 10-12 goals. 

A vast pool of nine teams participated in the 6-8 goal version, where the Legacy Polo Team had to face the mighty Polothanda & Comunicas. The former squad looked completely in control of the game, except for the first round, in which they were behind by one point. They managed to score one short of a dozen goals to completely demolish the side of Polothanda & Comunicas to win the 8-goal trophy of ⁠Copa De Espana. 

Final Score: Legacy Polo Team (11-7)

8. Open De España (12 Goals)

For the 10-12 goal version of Open De España, only three teams participated, out of which Whizmo Polo Team and Dos Lunas competed in the finals. 

The game was incredibly close, as Whizmo Polo Team drafted a phenomenal comeback in the fourth round, scoring five goals to snatch the lead away from their opponents. From hereon, Dos Lunas felt a lot of pressure, which ultimately led to their demise and Whizmo Polo Team was crowned the champions of Open De Espana (12 Goals). 

Final Score: Whizmo Polo Team (9-8)

9. France vs Brazil

The last days of June saw one of the most electric and buzzing bouts between the teams of France and Brazil. The game took place at the renowned Chantilly Polo Club, where both these teams descended on equal footing. 

It was a rollercoaster ride for the fans, as neither team was able to have an easy game. Nevertheless, France was able to stay just one point ahead when the final bell rang, winning this high-scoring encounter. 

Final Score: France (9-8)
