Born in Argentina in 2015, the concept of the All Pro Polo League (APPL) was presented in the Charity Cup Final at Domaine de Chantilly Polo Club last June. The format has now been adopted by the French Federation of Polo, and will be used in the first All Pro Polo League tournament on France which is set to be played May 15th onwards.
The APPL was first presented in France by the Argentine Founder Javier Tanoira, in an exhibition that brought together Argentine and French polo professionals. The concept of the league is to present a new model of the sport. The APPL aims at making the sport faster with a more dynamic style of play. The APPL also presents a simpler form of polo which can be easily understood by the umpires, players as well as the spectators. The exhibition match in Deauville last August showed exactly how the APPL wants the sport to be played.
The APPL has gained the backing of the best high goal players in the world and hence, the FFP has decided to apply the model to as many events as possible for this year. The best local players have also been invited to be a part of the movement. Four 15-goal teams are set to play by these rules- which is the same level as that of the French Open.
