Field Marshal Cariappa Cup, 2022

13 Oct, Day 1

The first match of the Field Marshal Cariappa Cup was played on October 13 at the lush grounds of the Army Equestrian Center ground II. The players enveloped in the stride and spirit of the tournament displayed some of the season’s fascinating performances, rummaging about the leading players of the Indian Polo team. The Topchi team began with a bang, competing against the Salvo team. Capt Kairan Gole, Dfr Iliyash Ali, Swr AK Panda, and LT Col A Samantaray of the Topchi Team took on Dr. Shivangi Jaisingh, Maj Abhimanyu Singh, LD Sat Prakash, and Nk Irfan Khan of the Topchi Team. The Salvo’s easily defeated the Topchi by a score of 4 to 2.5 goals.

 

14th Oct, Day 2

The Kara team faced the Aspen team on the second day, with Gnr Uday Kumar, Nk Kuldeep Singh, and Salim Azmi representing the former, and MR Shahnil Samantara, LD Ram Singh, Monica Saxena, and Aroonpal Singh representing the latter. The Kara team vanquished the Aspen team by a score of 5 to 1.

 

15th Oct, Day 3

The third day featured a match between Udar Polo and Torpedo, with the former team composed of Lt Prince Pal Singh, Allan S Micheal, Shaurya Vikram, and Deepak Udar. Lt Arun Kumar, Maj Anant Rajpurohit, Cdr AK Panchal, and Swr D Santosh were part of Team Torpedo. The Udar Polo team took the leap, defeating the Torpedos by a score of 5.5 to 3.

 

17th Oct, Day 4

The succeeding matches were placed one after the other for day 4 of the tournament. The first match of the day was held between Gohilward, present were the players Arya Ritwik Thakur, Ojasvi Khaneja, Col VS Kahlon, VSM, Jayvirsinh Gohil, against the players of Aspen, Shahnil Samantara, LD Ram Singh, Monica Saxena, Aroon Pal Singh. The first slot of the day ended with the massive victory of team Gohilward s against Aspen, winning with a score of 10 against 3.

The other match of the day was a ferocious deal between the Remount versus the Torpedo, with the players of both teams maintaining a similar score from the start, the Torpedos missed the mark by one goal, with the Remount taking a step closer to the championship. Remounts polo players, Gnr Ajit Parmar, Altaf Khan CPO, Swr Yallappa Godi, Nb Ris Vijay Singh, defeated the Torpedo Team consisting of Lt Arun Kumar/ Shivpal, Maj Anant Rajpurohit, Cdr AK Panchal, and Swr D Santosh, scoring 3 against 2 goals.

The last slot of the day ended with a match between team Risala, backed up by Swr Amar Singh, Rayyan Kidwai, Lt Cdr Kulvinder Rathee, and Maj Aman Singh, versus the teammates from Topchi, Lt Manoj Dewan, Brig GD Pandher, SM, Swr Ak Panda, and Lt Col Samantaray. In the last match, a walkover was given to team Risala

 

18th Oct, day 5

The first match of the day was a duel between Gohilwad and the Kara Polo Team. Gnr Uday Kumar, Nk Kuldeep Singh, Cdr Ak Panchal, Lt Col A Samantaray and Arya Ritwik Thankur from the Kara team, Ojasvi Khaneja, Col VS Kahloon, VSM and Jaivirsingh K Gohil from the Gohilwad team. The Gohilwad defeated the Kara Polo Team by 3 against 2 goals in the first match of the day.

Udar Polo drew the ball in their court and won by 0.5 points over the Remount. Team Remount, Gnr Ajit Parmar, Altaf Khan CPO, Swr Yallappa Godi, Nb Ris Vijay Singh, sported against Lt Prince Pal Singh, Allan S Micheal, Shaurya Vikram, Deepak Udar, with Maj Anand Rajpurohit playing two chukkers for Udar Polo.

The same day, Risala and Salvo played a match, with Risala winning by a single goal. Despite their better performances in previous games, the Salvos failed to score a single point. Players from the Salvo team included Dr. Shivangi Jaisingh, Maj Abhimanyu Singh, LD Sat Prakash, Nk Irfan Khan, Swr Amar Kumar, Rayan Kidwai, Lt Cdr Kulvinder Rathee, and Maj Aman Singh from the team Risala

Before the semi-finals, the trio of Salvo, Remount, and the Kara team paused in the field, their mallets drawn, ready to land a devastating blow. Salvo members include LD Sal Prakash, Maj Abhimanyu Singh, Remount consisting of, Alfat Khan CPO, Swr. Yallappa, and the Kara Team, which is led by Cdr Ak Panchal and NK Kuldeep. The remount Polo team scored the most goals, three, two by Salvos and one by Kara.

For deciding the 4th semifinalist, penalty shootouts were conducted, which were won by the RVC team.

 

20 Oct, Day 6

Team Udar Polo, matching the endearing spirit of the previous tournament, encountered Team Remount, clashing together in this tournament from Team Udar Polo were Lt Prince Pal Singh, Allan S Micheal, Shaurya Vikram, and NK Irfan Khan and from team Remount,  Gnr Ajit Parmar, Altaf Khan CPO, SWR Yallappa Godi, and Nb Ris Vijay Singh. The Udar Polo team once again marked their victory despite starting slowly against the Remount with a score of 4.5 against 3 goals.

 

21st Oct, Day 7

Team Risala and Gohilward, competed on day 7 of the tournament, joining the GOHILWAD team backed by Arya Ritwik Thakur, Ojasvi Khaneja, Col VS Kahlon( VSM), and Jaysinh K Gohil. The RESALA team was supported by SWR Amar Kumar, Mr. Rayyan Kidwai, Lt Cdr Kulvinder Rathee, and Maj Aman Singh. won by a whisker of 6 against 5 points.

 

22 Oct, day 8

In the Finals of the tournament, the match was held between Risala versus Udar Polo, both teams have had outstanding performance records throughout the tournament, making the finals even more intriguing. With a slow start from team Risala, the match quickly changed its course as Risala completely took over the Udar Polo team, backed by Lt Prince Pal Singh, Allan S Micheal, Shaurya Vikram, and Anant Rajpurohit. The RESALA team players Swr Amar Kumar, Rayyan Kidwai, Lt Cdr Kulvinder Rathee, and Capt ARS Warraich., scored a marvelous victory, winning with a score of 6.5 against 1 point, taking home the trophy of Field Marshal Cariappa Cup home.
