Get The Look : What To Wear To A Polo Match

P

olo is a game that has been known for being charismatic and wealthy since the time immemorial. This is because it is a game that has always been liked and hence enjoyed by many Royals and so it has always been said to be in style. The style is therefore mainly guided by the fact of a social occasion, accessibility and connection to the polo field, the weather to a certain degree and the polo match is played or organized to aid some charity cause.

Going to polo is a unique day outing – both in terms of sporting spectatorship and dress code. While bearing some similarities to a day at the races, polo dress is less structured, more ‘undone’… and is about comfort, above all. The years social summer calendar is well underway, whether it’s a day at the races or Polo, there’s one question on everyone’s mind. What to wear? For the ladies heels and little cocktail dresses rule the day with a jacket or cover up for the evening, however, smart trousers and jumpsuits have also proved a popular choice since recent times. While gentlemen turn out in an array of stylish suits. The outfit options are endless and it completely depends on your personal style as to how you want to work your look.

At the Polo Event, some of the world’s most famous and well dressed guests, that not only include the Royal family but celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Emma Watson, Keira Knightly, Sharon Stone, Colin Firth, Richard Gere, and Dianne Kruger to mention a few, are seen flaunting their outfits. Quintessential for polo matches

THE DRESS – Whether to opt for a pretty sundress, floating maxi dress, tailored trousers or comfortable culottes, the general rule here is smart and feminine. The polo is not necessarily the place to transfer over your race day outfit, nor is it the time to wear anything overtly sexy or tight. Think stylish summer picnic meets garden party and you can’t go too far wrong. Colour-wise, steer clear of black if you can. White is always a good option as are pastels, neutrals and bold pops of colour. Kaftans might also give an edgy elegant look, provided worn it with tights or pants or rather just kept long. Paddocks may be a good option too , as it often tends to get a little bit windy. Wearing a linen or cotton material, will be more comfortable even on a warm day. Having the right accessories like a colored scarf may steal the show.

THE HEADGEAR – Going to the polo isn’t the same as going to the races –there is no need for fascinators for polo . If still keen to protect yourself from the sun, making it a casual affair and opting for a panama, boater or wide-brimmed hat is the solution to the problem.

THE SHOES – The shoes should be very stable and short. The heels are a no go area for a polo game. Leaving the stilettos alone is the more suited option as they will keep sinking in the grass. A wedge or flat shoe will ease movements around and about the field.

THE ACCESSORIES – Polo is a great chance to have some fun with your accessories and bright, playful or statement-making pieces are good to go. A wicker clutch adds a whimsical touch, a bold pair of sunglasses can completely round out an outfit and a pair of earrings can make a subtle statement.
