Girl Power Displayed in the USPA Women’s Gold Cup

A high-octane tournament, the USPA Women's Gold Cup, was launched at Port Mayaca Polo Club in Okeechobee, Florida, showcasing splendid women's talents in polo.

Four teams and 19 female players were set to captivate audiences worldwide with their polo prowess. The US has long championed women’s polo through various tournaments, and this is yet another remarkable example. Let’s dive into the experience of this event, where these talented athletes won the hearts and minds of all who watched.

Match 1: BTA/Lazy vs Buena Vibra

Date: 19 January 

The first game of this brand-new tournament featured the teams of BTA/Lazy and Buena Vibra. As expected, it was a close game where people couldn’t take their eyes off the field. Both teams played neck and neck, fighting hard to make a bold arrival. Towards the end, it was BTA/Lazy who could steal a close win, scoring nine goals and staying ahead of the opponents by just a point. 

Winner: BTA/Lazy ( 9-8 )

Match 2: North Star vs La Fe Eastern Hay

A second game on the same day showcased talents from the teams of North Star and La Fe Eastern Hay. North Star played phenomenally well and aggressively against the opposing team in this game. The team members from La Fe Eastern Hay tried hard to make some plays to open possibilities of a comeback, but all their efforts were in vain. North Star scored a dozen goals, twice the number of goals scored by their opponents, convincingly winning their first match. 

Winner: North Star ( 12-6 )

Match 3: BTA/Lazy vs La Fe Eastern Hay

Date: 21 January 

After a one-day break, it was time for BTA/Lazy and La Fe Eastern Hay to face one another in the third game of the event. Neither of the teams was ready to throw away the game, resulting in a low-scoring game. In the end, fortune favoured the side of BTA/Lazy, as they could make the magical score happen, which kept them in the lead when time ran out. 

Winner: BTA/Lazy ( 5-4 )

Match 4: North Star vs Buena Vibra

The next match saw North Star take on Buena Vibra. While North Star had triumphed in their first game, Buena Vibra was still in search of their first win. North Star delivered another impressive performance, effectively shutting down any attempts at a comeback by Buena Vibra. They scored six goals, securing a victory with a two-point lead over their opponents.

Winner: North Star ( 6-4 )

Match 5: BTA/Lazy vs North Star

Date: 23 January 

This match was forfeited. 

Result: Match forfeited

Match 6: La Fe Eastern Hay vs Buena Vibra 

Date: 24 January 

La Fe Eastern Hay and Buena Vibra played the last league game. Buena Vibra was looking to end their campaign with a win, but they were up against a formidable opponent: La Fe Eastern Hay. Proving their mettle, La Fe Eastern Hay was on top of their game. They were able to stop incoming attacks from Buena Vibra. 

Winner: La Fe Eastern Hay ( 7-4 )

Final: North Star vs BTA/Lazy

Date: 25 January 

North Star and BTA/Lazy were the most consistent teams of this event. Both teams had been undefeated, and the audience assembled for this edge-of-the-seat thriller. In this battle of titans, North Star performed with extreme patience and scored every chance they got. BTA/Lazy tried to score points, too, but could not break through the defensive teamwork of their opponents, which made them go on the back foot continuously.  North Star went undefeated to rightfully engrave their names upon the first-ever USPA Women’s Gold Cup trophy.
