Golden Wave Trophy

A super different sort of horsepower was on show at the Polo Club Saint Tropez
, in the form of an “Old Car Trophy” competition. More than 25 post-war motorcars paraded in front of a large audience watching from the shaded terraces of Polo 1999, thereby adding to an ethnic touch in the entire event. A magnificent Delage was awarded first prize at the end of this bucolic event. A subtle and simple yet triumphant homage to our history.

As for the real horses, Golden Wave tournament got underway with the Subsidiary Cup. The complicated game, in which there were many games halts, took place under a brightly shining summer sun, complementing the vividly coloured setting of the event. The game brought about bursts of excitement, but otherwise it seemed like a well-balanced fluid game.

In the second match, the finals of the Golden Wave, the score table once more saw F Polo Team face Saint-Tropez Polo Team. This turned out to be a spectacular match at significantly superior speeds with determined players and resolute Argentine pros who left no chances to their opponents, a collaborated effort. At the end of the 4th Chukker, the F Polo Team once more overtook the Saint-Tropez Polo Team with a score of 9 to 6. Matias Carrique, replacing Justin Gaunt, was as resilient as the latter, but was absent for the weekend of the tournament due to injury.

After the games, One Life boutique organised a fashion show which seemed to be greatly appreciated by the many elegant women gracing the terraces. With traces of hand-embroidery, tie-and-dye, graphic roses, rainbow-logo prints and other rich style archives, it seemed as the west coast summers had already dawned. The floral prints, pastel colours and pristine whites, were the highlights of the evening.

The prize giving ceremony was as ever, a generous affair with vibrant roses and special gifts for the winners. The award for best pony went to the beautiful Thailandesa, played by Matias Nigoul.

As the evening began to the raving rhythms of jazz, the public and players were invited to participate at the Gala Dinner hosted by the Polo 1999 restaurant. The best Argentine cuts of meat and unbeatable ceviches were on the menu, followed by the perfect chef’s dessert, the famous and the accentuated dish of the starry night – ‘Chocolate Polo Ball with velvety dulce de leche.
