Helvetica Polo Club Holds The 44th Copa Giorgio Moroni

Thirty-two players divided among eight teams battled it out for the shining trophy of the Copa Giorgio Moroni. The tournament went through a series of 14 games, including the much-anticipated finals. Here is a list of a few matches that shook the audience with their allure. 

Participating Teams 

Qualifier: Flamboyant vs Colorado 

Date: 1 May 

One of the interesting qualifier games was between Flamboyant and Colorado. Flamboyant had a good start and hinted at an easy win, but Colorado was not ready to give up. Colorado made a comeback in the fourth chukker and, interestingly, levelled the score, denying giving up. Then, Flamboyant woke up and did their best to take back the lead, winning the game by three points. 

Winner: Flamboyant (11-8)

Qualifier: La Cumbre vs Colorado II

Date: 1 May 

The last qualifier game was between La Cumbre and Colorado II. The game was close and neck-and-neck, except in the second round, when Colorado II had a two-point lead. Going into the fifth round, La Cumbre was able to get ahead by three points, and despite the valiant efforts from Colorado II in the last round, La Cumbre was still a point ahead when the final bell rang. 

Winner: La Cumbre (11-10)

Semi-Final 1: Flamboyant vs La Cumbre 

Date: 4 May 

The stage was set for the first semi-final between Flamboyant and La Cumbre. The latter team had a decent start, staying ahead and maintaining the lead for the entire first half. Unfortunately, as the second half began, Flamboyant came back strong and took away the lead. La Cumbre fell off the game, only scoring one goal in the fifth and sixth rounds, which made them lose the game by a four-point margin.

Winner: Flamboyant ( 10-6 )

Semi-Final 2: SJP/Flamboyant vs Colorado 

Date: 7 May 

The second semi-final was after a two-day rest between SJP/Flamboyant and Colorado. The game was pretty one-sided, with the former team displaying its unwavering discipline and commitment. Colorado was unable to find any opening and went pointless in many rounds. Eventually, the point gap kept increasing, and SJP/Flamboyant became the second finalists of the 44th Copa Giorgio Moroni. 

Winner: SJP/Flamboyant ( 13-5 )

Final: SJP/Flamboyant vs Flamboyant 

Date: 10 May 

The time for the much-awaited finals featuring two of the most dominant teams, SJP/Flamboyant and Flamboyant, had arrived. The first couple of rounds ended up in a tie, but from the third one, SJP/Flamboyant went loose to score multiple goals and take the lead. From hereon, Flamboyant lagged in points due to the pressure building up, and ultimately, SJP/Flamboyant became the undisputed champions of this year’s 44th Copa Giorgio Moroni.
