Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games
The 19th Asian Games, or Hangzhou 2022, was held as a multi-sport event that was hosted in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The events were held over a course of about 16 days between 23 September and 8 October 2023.Â
With the conclusion of this year’s Asian Games, India’s historical and record-breaking campaign came to an end with a whopping total of 107 medals, which included 28 Gold, 38 Silver, and 41 Bronze medals. The previous best came in the year 2018 when India was able to claim a total of 70 medals.

The shooters and athletes representing India performed exceptionally well and ended their tour at the Asian Games in style. They claimed a total of 29 gold, which was the most for any specific sport (athletic). On the other hand, Indian shooters triumphed, bringing a total of 22 medals for the nation.
In an unfortunate event caused by the rain Gods, India was declared the winner in the men’s cricket finals held at the Asian Games under the ranking rule system. India was faced against Afghanistan, where the latter was batting first and scored 112 runs by the end of 18.2 overs after losing 5 wickets when the game was called off.
On the final day of the Asian Games, showered medals for India, and among all the receivers, Jyothi Surekha Vennam was one of them. She had to defeat South Korea’s Chaewon So in the finals to secure gold for India, and she was able to do so with a score of 145-149.
The men showed equal grit in archery as Ojas Deotale won gold and Abhishek Verma settled for silver in compound individual events at the Asian Games.

India’s golden boy, Neeraj Chopra, made India proud by grabbing the gold medal once again. Adding cherry to the top, Kishore Kumar Jena was a name that outshined in the event of javelin as well. Together, they were able to engrave their names in the hearts of people as they secured both the first and second positions on the podium.

For the jumping event, the team of Kirat Singh Nagra, Tejas Dhingra, and Yash Sensee participated in the Asian Games but, unfortunately, were eliminated in the first round. Only Yash was able to make it through the qualifier rounds, but it was not enough to make it past competition 1.
The team of Ashish Limaye, Apurva Dabhade, and Vikas Kumar represented India in this particular event. Together, they were able to accumulate a total of 1077.20 penalty points, which secured them the 5th position.Â
Anush, continuing his good form, added an individual bronze to his name in the equestrian dressage event. Accompanied by Etro, Agarwalla was able to score a total of 73.030 points – 69.900 for technical and 76.160 for the artistic section, finishing at the third position. His teammate, Hriday Chheda, was unfortunately eliminated after his horse Chemxpro was bleeding from the leg.

The highlight of the Asian game for Indians was bagging the gold medal (team) for themselves in the dressage event. The medal itself was special as it came after a long period of time. But the wait was worthwhile as the bronze that came during the 1986th edition was converted into a gold medal.
