Jaipur Witnesses The Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Polo Cup

The Jaipur Polo Season gets bigger and better as it dives into its deeper stages, featuring the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Polo Cup, a high-octane tournament for the elites.

Eight quality teams were actively participating in this high-goal tournament, fighting for the cup and their respective honours. Let’s view which of these teams were able to maintain their honours and which ones had to leave disheartened and await another opportunity and event to redeem themselves.

Match 1: All-Star Polo Team vs Aravali Polo 

Date: 4 February 

The first game of this highly coveted tournament was a showcase of potential from the side of the All-Star Polo Team against the daunting Aravali Polo. It was a close game, but luck favoured the side of the All-Star Polo Team, as they could clinch an extra goal and register their first win of the event.

Winner: All-Star Polo Team ( 8-7 )
Match 2: Jaipur Leela vs Jindal Panther 

The second game featured Jaipur Leela against Jindal Panther, where the latter started with a points advantage. Despite being put in an unfavourable situation, Jaipur quickly coped with the gap and administered consecutive goals to build up a lead of their own. Almost scoring a dozen goals, the Jaipur team defeated Jindal Panther in their first game.

Winner: Jaipur Leela ( 11-7.5 )

Match 3: V-Polo/Delta Polo vs Dynamix Achievers 

Date: 5 February 

This day was a polo fest featuring four back-to-back matches with nonstop action. The first match was between V-Polo/Delta Polo and Dynamix Achievers. This game proved to be a huge upset for the side of Dynamix Achievers as they could not score goals regularly, which caused their demise. Losing by three points, they had to face a crushing defeat in the tournament’s first half.

Winner: V-Polo/Delta Polo ( 6-3 )

Match 4: Suján Indian Tigers vs 61 Cavalry-Royal Enfield 

The next game was held between Suján Indian Tigers and 61 Cavalry-Royal Enfield, the closest game possible on the polo field. The latter team had a points advantage in the game. Both teams exchanged goals regularly, and in the final moments, Suján Indian Tigers scored a mesmerising goal during the second half and won the game by just 0.5 points.

Winner: Suján Indian Tigers ( 7-6.5 )

Match 5: All-Star Polo Team vs Jindal Panther 

The third game featured for the second time teams of the All-Star Polo and Jindal Panther, where the latter had a points advantage. Living up to the expectations, the All-Star Polo Team once again shone brightly to overcome all disadvantages. It rose to the occasion by securing yet another win by scoring ten goals.

Winner: All-Star Polo Team ( 10-7.5 )

Match 6: Jaipur Leela vs Aravali Polo

The last game for the day showcased the mighty teams of Jaipur Leela and Aravali Polo. Jaipur Leela dominated this game, as they were able to score goals on a much more regular basis and win their second league game in a row.

Winner: Jaipur Leela ( 10-6 )

Match 7: V-Polo/Delta Polo vs 61 Cavalry (1.5 advantage)

Date: 6 February 

This day was a doubleheader, and the first matchup was between V-Polo/Delta Polo and 61 Cavalry, where 61 Cavalry had a points advantage. Despite the lead given to the opposition, V-Polo was quickly able to recuperate from the situation and got their heads in the game. They were able to muster eight goals, which was more than enough for the win.

Winner: V-Polo/Delta Polo ( 8-5.5 )

Match 8: Dynamix Achievers vs Suján Indian Tigers 

The last league game was a showcase of talents from the teams of Dynamix Achievers and Suján Indian Tigers. It was a nerve-racking game, which made everyone rise onto their feet. Both teams started well and didn’t let each other get too far away from the game. Dynamix Achievers pulled off a desperate win in this game by just a single-point margin.

Winner: Dynamix Achievers ( 7-6 )

Semi-Final 1: All-Star Polo Team vs Dynamix Achievers 

Date: 8 February 

The first semifinal game featured the teams of All-Star Polo and Dynamix Achievers. It was an upsetting game for the latter side, as despite trying their level best, they could not get ahead of the opposition, and gradually, it was the All-Star Polo Team that neared the win with the passage of each round.

Winner: All-Star Polo Team ( 7-5 )

Semi-Final 2: Jaipur Leela vs V-Polo/Delta Polo 

An interesting match-up decided the second finalist between Jaipur Leela and V-Polo/Delta Polo. This game was high-scoring as both teams were vying for the win to secure their spot in the final game. Jaipur Leela exhibited remarkable gameplay and outplays to secure their goalposts and score themselves whenever possible. This landed them a couple of points ahead of V-Polo when the final bell of the last chukker rang.

Winner: Jaipur Leela ( 9-7 )

Final: Jaipur Leela vs All-Star Polo Team 

Date: 9 February 

Two-star teams putting on a tremendous display of grit and challenge together forged the most memorable and phenomenal game of polo. Jaipur Leela was ahead during the first half by a small point difference. The All-Star Polo Team made a comeback during the second half and coped with the difference, and eventually, both teams ended up on eight points each by the end of the fourth chukker. Ultimately, the game was decided by a sudden death round where Lance Watson scored that magical golden goal, which helped the team of Jaipur to lift the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Polo Cup.
