Coca-Cola vs Stable Door Polo

The opening encounter went all the way to the last few minutes of the 6th chukker. Stable Door held a lead for the greater part of the encounter due to strong cohesive play by Santiago Toccalino, VIctorino Ruiz Jorba, and Henry Porter, who was able to score the most in the tight game.

Argentinian veteran Ignacio Novillo Astrada made his presence felt on the field right from the beginning of the encounter as he rose forward to assert control over the lead after scoring twice himself to equalize the 2 handicap lead of Stable door and assisting teammate Steve Krueger to pitch his side ahead going into the matchup. Porter scored his first goal of the encounter and both the team stood at level. A stable door then restricted Coca cola’s well-mounted offenses to secure a slim 6-5 lead going into the latter half of the game.

Porter came into his element in the second half, commencing the 4th chukker with two cracking goals. Coca-cola tried to retaliate but was unable to convert 4 scoring opportunities. The gameplay intensified in the 5th chukker with both teams scoring a combined 6 times. The duo of Toccalino and Julian de Lusarreta scored 4 times. But Coca-Cola found a fighting chance after Santino Magrini was penalized with 2-minute suspension. Unable to capitalize on yet another opportunity, Coca-Cola went into the final chukker trailing. Their resilience came into play as they fought back Gillian Johnston scoring her third goal of the game in a strong performance. Time ultimately played in Stable Door Polo’s favor as they held on for the 12-11 victory.

Cessna Polo Team vs Equuleus

The second game pitted the offensive side of Equuleus against the defensive Cessna Polo to make for a classic polo exhibition.

Consistent with fouls in the early part of the encounter, Cessna ended up conceding a 2 goal trail against the aggressors. Further, Equuleus extended their lead with scoring two more times which triggered an appropriate response from the Cessna offense and all four players took turns at scoring.

Cessna’s Magoo Laprida and Mariano Gonzalez mounted a tactical offense at the very end of the 1st half to ensure a 6-4 lead for Cessna going into the latter chukkers of the match-up.

They slowly neutralized Cessna’s lead, scoring 4 times and warded off any offense launched by Cessna in response. Cessna was restricted to just a single field goal from Felipe Marquez in the entire second half, coming by the way of final penalty conversion and Gonzalez reciprocated that with a penalty conversion of his own to seal the victory for Equuleus with 8-7.

Iconica vs Santa Clara

The final game of the opening day was also an intense one, remaining in the balance until the very last minute of the match. The teams of Iconica and Santa Clara were desperate to get the W and the match intensified right from the first whistle. Both teams found successes with their attacks on repeated occasion in the game, making the game a back and forth affair for the majority of the gameplay. With Sebastian Merlos out due to incurring substantial injuries, Iconica’s new line-up of Cody Ellis, Grngo Colombres, Peke Gonzalez and Matias Magrini took the early 1-0 with Gonzalez converting a field goal. Toccalino converted a couple of penalties but Iconica’s more cohesive team matched that with each individual player finding success with the goal. The half concluded at 4-4.

The game became more heated in the concluding chukker and Iconica was able to get the better of their opponents, winning by 10-8.
