“What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course,” said iconic celebrity, Marilyn Monroe. The famous luxury brand, founded by the visionary Coco Chanel, was named CHANEL. Its legacy is connected to the popular fragrance, Chanel No. 5. “A womens perfume with a woman’s scent,” explained Coco Chanel.
Chanel No. 5 was launched by French couturier Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel. The scent formula was compounded by the French-Russian chemist and perfumer, Ernest Beaux. Chanel celebrated the 100th anniversary of their world’s most iconic perfume and has decided to pay homage to its collection by producing a limited edition of No. 5 collections: it is a timeless perfume.
The name No. 5, just like Chanel, is quite popular and was selected by Coco Chanel after her association with number 5. During her childhood, Coco Chanel was raised by the nuns and had to go to the cathedral for daily prayers, where she saw continuous patterns of number 5.
Even when the sample fragrances were presented in different vials, the fifth vial was chosen. According to a conversation with Ernst Beaux, she explained: “I present my dress collections on the fifth of May, the fifth month of the year, and so, we will let this sample number five keep the name it has already. It will bring good luck.”
The No. 5 Collection has three different types of perfumes. The Parfum has a rich and precious trail. The Eau de Parfum has a sophisticated trail, making it the classical version, and the Eau de Toilette is light and transparent.
PARFUM LIMITED EDITION GRAND EXTRAIT
The fragrance is similar to a flower that unfolds into a different smell, with its two exceptional raw materials: May Rose, and Grasse Jasmine, and the combination of Aldehydes provides a unique freshness. The Parfum is much more precious, concentrated and more long-lasting.
EAU DE PARFUM, SPRAY COLLECTOR’S EDITION
No. 5 Eau de Parfum is much more complex and has a variety of raw materials. The ingredient of the Eau de Parfum includes May Rose and Jasmine, and to make the fragrance hit the right notes, it’s been topped off with a citrus flavour. The Aldehydes is an important part of the fragrance that creates a unique experience for each individual consumer, and the additional ingredient of bourbon vanilla provides a sensual aroma.
EAU DE TOILETTE, SPRAY COLLECTOR’S EDITION
The Eau de Toilette was composed by Oliver Page, CHANEL’s In-house perfume creator. In the No. 5 L’EAU, vibrant flavours of lemon, mandarin and orange have been added to create light-heartedness and transparency. Along with many flavours, raw material such as rose, jasmine and ylang-ylang have been included. This makes the fragrance light, and modern, and is a perfect fit to make your lives energetic.
NO. 5 EAU DE PREMIERE SPRAY
Most of the No. 5 collections have been inspired by Gabrielle Chanel and perfumer Ernst Beaux and one such fragrance is Eau Premiere Spray which was the reinterpretation of the No. 5 by Jacques Polge. The Ylang-Ylanh presence in the perfume, along with Jasmine and May Rose provides a different angle to the perfume. The fragrance has a certain softness and and the subtle ingredient of Aldeydes introduces an incredible feminine trail.
CHANEL continues to remain one of the key luxury fashion houses, along with its flagship fragrance, the No. 5 fragrance collection. CHANEL had started from a single store, and under the guidance of Coco Chanel, the fashion house has branched across the world.
