The 2017 Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup took place at the Singapore Polo Club on 5th June. The very first time the prestigious event hits the shores of South East Asia. Royal Salute is proud to announce its continued support of Sentebale’s flagship event for the seventh consecutive year.
Sentebale’s annual polo fundraising event continues to be one of the most important events in the charity calender.
Since Sentebale was founded in 2006, the charity has reached thousands of children and young generation in Lesotho and later in Botswana, who have been struggling to come to terms with living with HIV by addressing their mental health and wellbeing. The World Health Organisation reports that HIV is the number one cause of death of adolescents in Africa; Lesotho and Botswana have the second and third highest infection rates of HIV in the world, respectively. Sentebale aims to encourage youth to know and manage their HIV status and access the relevant follow up care and treatment.
Royal Salute, which was created in 1953 in tribute to the British crown and has since had a long-standing association with royalty and royal values, is proud to again partner with Sentebale for the Polo Cup, which once again saw Prince Harry play on the Sentebale ISPS Handa team against the St. Regis team captained by Sentebale Ambassador Nacho Figueras.
The Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup took place at the Singapore Polo Club by invitation only. Along with event title sponsor Royal Salute, other generous sponsors include ISPS Handa, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, BMW Asia and British Airways.
About 300 well-heeled guests and celebrities – including Karen Gillan of “Doctor Who” and “Downton Abbey” star Joanne Froggatt – watched the match at the historic Singapore Polo Club in aid of the prince’s charity Sentebale.
In a closely fought match in the searing Singapore heat, Sentebale ISPS Handa Team clinched the win 5-2 with Sentebale’s Founding Patron Prince Harry scoring two of the Sentebale goals against Nacho Figueras St. Regis Team. This year’s trophy was presented by Karen Gillan.
