Meeting their Waterloo: Duke of Wellington Trophy

With mallets in hand and determination in their hearts, fourteen teams set foot in the Guards Polo Club. In a cut-throat contest which lasted over two weeks, the non-stop action enthralled spectators. Here’s a crisp version brought to you by La Polo.

Semi-Final 1: Tempest vs

Bin Drai Polo Team 

Date: 15 August 

The stakes were raised with the Duke of Wellington Trophy moving into the knockout stages. Tempest challenged Bin Drai Polo for a direct entry into the finals. Both teams kept their guards up, resulting in a low-scoring game. A sign of relief resided with Tempest when the final bell rang and their scoreboard read one point ahead of the opposition.

Winners: Tempest ( 6-5 ) 

Semi-Final 2: Cool Hooves Polo vs The Mirror 

Cool Hooves Polo were in a league of their own in this game against The Mirror. The latter started with a points advantage. Every time Cool Hooves Polo had a chance, they leaned and struck the ball, driving it into the goalposts of their opponents. They ended up accumulating almost twice the number of points scored by The Mirror and advanced into the finals. 

Winners: Cool Hooves Polo ( 8-4.5 )

Sub-Semi-Final 1: Oriflamme vs Yaguara 

Date: 15 August 

On the same day, a subsidiary semi-final contest was held between Oriflamme and Yaguara. The game was substantially low scoring but exponentially high in anticipation! Oriflamme guarded their defences valiantly to qualify for the subsidiary final by a slight two-point margin. 

Winners: Oriflamme ( 5-3 )

Sub-Semi-Final 2: Ainsley Saddlery vs Tchogan/Polo Performance 

Ainsley Saddlery challenged Tchogan/Polo Performance for the remaining spot in the subsidiary final. Neither of the teams was ready to back down, which gave rise to yet another thrilling encounter. Tchogan posed a tough threat to Ainsley Saddlery, but their determination to win crumbled the opposite side, and they filled the final spot of the subsidiary final.

Winners: Ainsley Saddlery ( 8-6 )

Sub-Final: Ainsley Saddlery vs Oriflamme 

Date: 17 August 

Ainsley Saddlery displayed a charismatic performance against Oriflamme in this subsidiary final. Oriflamme had no counter for the aggressive play style of Ainsley Saddlery. Consequently, they faced a crushing defeat, and Ainsley Saddlery became the victors of the subsidiary final. 

Winners: Ainsley Saddlery ( 8-2 )

Final: Tempest vs Cool Hooves Polo 

Date: 17 August 

The audience was treated to yet another cliffhanger when Tempest and Cool Hooves Polo faced off on the Queen’s Ground with their eyes set on the Trophy! Both teams were at par with each other, but Fortune favoured the brave- and so, Tempest surged ahead! The advantage of points was given to Tempest; therefore, this became the deciding factor, and they won by a mere 0.5-point margin, winning the 12-goal 2025 Duke of Wellington Trophy. 

Winners: Tempest ( 6.5-6 )
