Known for championing self-expression through its pared-back, pruned pieces, Missoma, the accessible, affordable jewellery label, is making a splash in British high-society circles. Founder Marisa Horder says of the label’s fundamentals: “I started Missoma because I was trying to find fashion-forward jewellery that was high quality and also affordable, and realised that it didn’t exist–so I set about designing it myself.”Missoma was a supplementary side hustle when she began; it started at Horder’s home. Today, the fledgling, fast-growing label, thirteen years into its founding, ships to nearly two hundred countries, with an annual turnover of £33m as of last year.
Designed out of an atelier in Notting Hill, London, the label creates pieces that evoke sustainability with a touch of sophistication. Each piece is handcrafted, with sustainable sourcing at the initiative’s core, to reflect a minimalist yet multifaceted aesthetic. There’s something for every occasion.
What makes Missoma stand apart is its unique sources of inspiration: nature and architecture. Eschewing transience, Missoma offers pieces that can be worn ‘on repeat’.
Championing Self-expression
Fashion is a form of self-expression–a mantra, knowingly or unknowingly, Missoma swears by. As Horder says: “Missoma jewellery is for everyone, whoever you are and however you like to wear it. Celebrate all of your layers.” Missoma subtly yet strongly encourages its wearers to embrace the art of wearing minimalism with a touch of savoir vivre. For instance, its sleek demi-gold pieces are perfect for making a suave statement!
Stacking rings and bracelets are popular among Missoma’s wearers–so if extravagance peppered with elegance is your thing, then Missoma can be an option. That way, Missoma flawlessly straddles both aspects of jewellery-making, minimalism and maximalism.
Championing Self-confidence
The label inspires its wearers to express their credence by choosing superior, splendid pieces. Whether it is a pair of elegant pearl earrings or an exquisite string of teardrop pearl necklaces, each piece carries a subtle significance. Missoima jewellery, thus, encourages a tangible sense of empowerment.
Sustainable Promise
Though an evolving concept, sustainable crafting of jewellery is slowly yet steadily emerging stronger than ever before. A horde of upcoming craftsmen have been inculcating sustainability into their labels. Missoma uses ethically sourced materials. All the pieces are cafted from hundred per cent certified recycled metals.
Sourcing from renewable energy-focused suppliers, Missoma is offsetting carbon across different aspects of its enterprise. And that initiative has paid off: This year, Missoma became one of the 50 enterprises in the world to be selected for the prestigious Planet 50 Sustainable Awards.
