It came down to the battle of two German quartets in the final of Nobility for Ability Charity Cup 2018, played on June 24. Los Nacheros were up against Las Hermanitas, in a 12-handicap match at the Polo Club du Domaine de Chantilly.
Martin Aguerre of Las Hermanitas opened the scoring as he gave them an early lead of 1-0. However a series of goals from the Los Nacheros captain Valentin Novillo Astrada, including a goal and three penalties, put his team ahead by 6-1 at the end of the 2nd chukka.
The trailing side put up strong effort to reduce the gap to 8-6, in the opening chukka of 2nd half. But Astrada and his side were in no mood to lose their lead, as the skipper converted an easy penalty at the beginning of the 5th. French international Louis Jarrige made a match-winning save from a penalty for his side who maintained their composure till the end.
Naomi Schröder’s goal for Las Hermanitas in dying moments of the match failed to create an impact on the result, as Los Nacheros claimed victory by 9 goals to 7. The victory also marked their first ever title at Chantilly.
‘Charrua’, a 9 year-old grey mare ridden by Valentin Novillo Astrada, was named the Best Playing Pony of the day.
