Raising awareness for breast cancer

The entire polo ground was adorned with pink at Thai Equestrian Polo Club

Thai equestrian polo club caters to the need of spreading awareness and raises funds for the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer. The 7th Queen’s Cup BMW Pink Polo 2016 was co-organized by Harald Link, Chairman of B.Grimm Group; Nunthinee Tanner, managing director of LBG Limited and BMW Nelson Autohaus (Thailand). To celebrate this big cause, the whole of the crowd and even the polo ground was adorned in pretty pink, to show unity and support for the International Breast Cancer cause. The match of the day was the game among three ladies team to meet in Round Robin including BMW team, Maple leaf team and Thai Polo team joined by Princess Jeanette zu Fuerstenberg.

Ms. Nunthinee Tanner, chairman for the ‘Pink Polo 2016’ organizing committee said “I have been aware of the danger of breast cancer as one of the most serious causes of suffering for women nowadays and have learned that there had been a large number of women out there who lack knowledge about the disease and the opportunities for treatment.

So, now in its seventh year, the polo ladies’ tournament is a showcase of the prowess of women polo players who come together annually not only in a bid to display their skills but also to raise funds for the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer. The theme of pink has been chosen because that’s the colour that symbolizes the fight against breast cancer.”

With wooded hills as the backdrop, and its beautifully landscaped setting covering 800 acres, was made all the more ornamental and graceful with the pink decorations, as far as the eyes could see. The esteemed guests were highly encouraged to drape only pink, to highlight the cause, and most did oblige, and thereby helping in constructing a pink paradise out there.

Highlight of the event included the special Iran-Thailand Junior show-jumping friendship, fashion show on horseback by honorable celebrities, looking elegant as they stride with Burberry, La Martina brands, which set the tone for the glamorous evening. Junior polo demonstration. Then the excitement on polo match among BMW team, Thai Polo team and Maple leaf was begun amidst this paradise landscape. In addition, guests also enjoyed the social tradition of divot stomping all over the field stomping down the torn up turf and to meet great people or even to say hello to the players who walked divots to keep limber.

The Queen’s Cup BMW Pink Polo Tournament is the major event for the polo season in Thailand and proceeds will be donated to Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer. Thereafter, closing polo season in Thailand with the Princess Pa’s Cup Beach Polo on 30 April 2016 at InterContinental, Huahin with fund raised for Princess Pa’s project ‘Nabha’
