His Highness Shrimant Vikram Sinh Puar of Dewas (President, Daly College) inaugurated the first edition of the Dewas Polo Cup at the historic Daly College (est. 1870) on April 19.
The DC Lancers, students of Daly College, Indore, put together a spectacular equestrian display featuring tent pegging, cross tent pegging, a standing salute, and show jumping. Show jumping included normal jumps and also the fire jumps by students, both boys and girls.
The four-chukker match was played under the floodlights, with three players on each side, using the regular ball. The event was attended by all the Daly College alumni, along with their families, totalling about 700 spectators, in addition to the 500 students.
The game was ceremonially opened with a traditional throw-in by HH Rajmata Shrimant Gayatri Raje, joined by HH Shrimant Vikram Sinhji.
The evening was filled with cheer and excitement as Daly College alumni, parents, and students witnessed a thrilling match between the Dewas Knights in white, led by Maj Raghav Raj Shivrati, and the Dewas Cavaliers in black, captained by Capt. Arvind Pal Singh (AP). Hotelier and polo enthusiast Veeram Dev Singh stole the spotlight, scoring four of the six goals for the winning team, Decas White Knights.
More than just a sporting event, the evening marked a regal revival of Central India’s polo legacy—an elegant showcase of heritage, horsemanship, and high-energy equestrian sport, brought to life in a landmark inaugural edition that celebrated India’s grand polo tradition.
Regarding this sporting event, Dr Gunmeet Bindra, the Principal of the Daly College said, “As Principal, it fills me with great pride that Dalians- both past and present- under the tutelage of Maharaj Vikram Sing Puar, Dewas Sr. (President, Board of Governors) -excelled in putting together a stellar show with such an august gathering. DC has endeavoured to uphold the rich traditions of sportsmanship handed down since 1870, and the Dewas Cup is another feather in our much festooned hat!”
