The Return Of International Polo Tournament In Manipur

The people of Manipur are psyched nowadays as Polo returns to its birthplace. The 11th International Polo Tournament Championship is going to keep you thrilled as several teams confirmed their participation in the tournament which is going to be organised as part of the Manipur Sangai Festival.
This time, not love but Polo is in Manipur’s air as some of the most successful teams on the planet

announced their participation in the run for the championship. Morocco and England are also going to participate in the Polo derby. These teams will go head to head against each other in the annual invitational tournament, confirmed by the Chairman of Manipur International Polo Tournament organising committee, Mr. H Dilip.
India A and India B will represent India and Manipur in the Championship. Total of 6 teams will be competing for the championship.

The names of the players have been announced on 17th November and the draw will be done on the 21st of November, and the matches are scheduled to be played from 24th November to 29th November, said the organisers of the event.

Martin Scortichini (2), Juan Cruz Gramajo (3), Juan Pablo Saravia (2) and Miguel Uriburo (3) will be representing the world champion team Argentina.
Jorge Vásquez (2), Nate Berube (2), Nick Johnson (3), Kegan Walsh (3) and Brennan Wells (2) are in the USA team.

English polo team will be represented by George Shelton (1), Ben Eeley (2), Phil Seller (2) and

Robin Ormerod (1).

Bady Kebir, Hicham Zine, Rachid Haddouche and Philippe Darroux will take the matter in their

hands for Morocco.

Maj Narendra Singh (0), Dfr Ram Singh (1), Col Tarsem Singh (2) and Dfr Vijay Sing (2) will

represent Indian Polo Association as Indian A.

And, last but not the least, India B team playing for Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association will be represented by P. Ojit Singh, T. Pradeepkumar Singh.(Captain), S. Bimol Singh, K. Jogendra Meitei, L. Atangba Singh and Th. Jacob.

The tournament will be played according to the Indian Polo Association’s rules and the venue is Mapal Kangjeibung, Manipur. The construction of the accommodations for the 100 horses and their caretakers is complete to the southern side of the Bir Tikendrajit Park. All of this was completed in three days and put in order to meet up the international standards. All the lavish hotels in the town were booked in advance for the stay of the players and the officials of the polo teams coming from outside of Manipur.

The Chairman of Hurlingham Polo Association, Nicholas Colquhoun-Denvers is expected to grace the event.

The competition is made possible with the help of Manipur Government and Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association.
