Rolls Royce’s Art Programme – A Center For Creativity

B

ritish automaker Rolls-Royce Motor Cars is all set to diversify the visibility of its Art Programme wing by commissioning a public art display during the iconic Art Basel Miami Beach which happens next month. José Parlá has been selected by Rolls-Royce to join its Art Programme with the project held concurrently with Art Basel Miami Beach being the inaugural collaboration.

Mr. Parlá, a Cuban descent was born in Miami and graduated from Miami Dade Community College and Savannah College of Art and Design, Rolls-Royce’s partnering college. Mr. Parlá is an art aficionado and serves as a constant mentor to upcoming artists. Hence, Rolls Royce sensed a connection and found Mr. Parlá to be the perfect fit for the initiative as the art program aims at fostering creativity.

Mr. Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce stated, “For our patrons, the commissioning of a Rolls-Royce motor car and the creation of fine pieces of art are bound by a common philosophy. Both endeavors are born of inspiration and are executed at the hands of highly skilled men and women, who strive to create beautiful objects with a profound sense of legacy.”

He strongly feels that the Rolls-Royce Art Programme acknowledges the links between world’s most celebrated luxury house and the field of art through the creation of works that add to the rich tapestry of artistic endeavor. Mr. Parlá’s art display will mark the third consecutive year of the knot between Rolls Royce and the YoungArts during Art Basel Miami Beach. After its viewing in over in Miami Beach, the exhibition will then be showcased at SCAD, Mr. Parlá’s alma mater in 2017.

The auto brand also had a presence alongside Art Basel Hong Kong. Last March, Rolls-Royce collaborated with Morgan Wong, a Hong Kong-based artist during the annual art fair to host an exhibit within the showroom. The artwork gives a broader view and understanding of urban development in relation to Rolls Royce’s Spirit of Ecstasy. The display gave the wealthy Art Basel attendees another reason to visit Rolls-Royce’s showroom later this week during the event.
