The Rise of Speakeasy Bars in India

Smooth jazz, delectable drinks and a nostalgic feel, speakeasy bars have an undeniable charm which has taken over the country.

As the drinks flow interspersed with laughter and notes of smooth jazz, the evening progresses, the conversations become more bold, sometimes intimate, but always memorable…

From the warm lights to the nostalgia they invoke, peppered with a deep sense of calm, a treat to the senses awaits you the minute you step in and experience the “unmissable” vibe of a speakeasy bar!

Even the carefully crafted menu reads like a story, gradually letting you sink into the ambience of the candlelit, plush interiors as you sip an exotic cocktail.

A trend that began almost 140 years ago in the United States and was revived worldwide about 20 years ago, the speakeasy bar has found a home in India. The bars have an inherent element of surprise, which never fails to impress guests who enjoy the heightened sense of charm that permeates the premises.

From the outside, many speakeasies masquerade as an abandoned door, a war, a grocery store, and a tailor shop, among others. They do not have any geotags on Google, and the reservations are done via DMs on Instagram. Some of the most famous speakeasies are Strangr in Delhi, Madco in Chennai, Bar 1240 in Goa and ZLB23 in Bengaluru, to name a few.

Here is a comprehensive list of some of the best bars in India.
