The Argentine finale held on the 10th of December saw an exhilarating clash between the two of its most notable teams, La Dolfina and Ellerstina.
Played at the “Campo Argentino de Polo of Palermo” in Buenos Aires since 1923, the Argentine Open is one among the most sought-after tournament.
The match which was seen as an exciting affair between the two teams, had its score progression as follows:
With Ellerstina initially taking the lead, constituting of the three Pieres siblings and their cousin, finished the chukker 2-1.
La Dolfina with their 4 handicaps, each 10, balanced the second chukker with the score of 3-3; progressing it to 6-5 and 7-6 by halftime.
After the sudden 3 goals for La Dolfina, the fifth chukker ended with a nail biting score of 9-9; keeping the same score pace throughout at 11-11 in the sixth.
It was only in the second last chukka, that La Dolfina buckled up, scoring three goals by taking the score to 14-11. And hence, ending the tournament by scoring two more to Ellerstina’s one goal with a victorious 16-12.
The Gonzalo Heguy MVP award was given to David Stirling; Lady Susan Townley BPP Award to Striling’s pony Zippi; and the Javier Novillo Astrada Award for the top best scorer of the tournament to Adolfo Cambiaso.
