Vimal Arion Achievers win the Raffles Sirmour Cup in Jaipur

Five teams showcasing intensified competition in one of the most elite tournaments in India, the Sirmour Cup, brought forth the best of polo. A recap of the best moments from this past week.

Match 1: Vimal Arion Achievers vs Delta Polo/V Polo

Date: 10 February 

The inaugural game showcased skills from Vimal Arion Achievers and Delta Polo/V Polo. It was one heck of a game, which gave the crowd goosebumps. Both teams had a decent start, but Achievers took their game to the next level and left Delta Polo behind by a couple of points to take the win.

Winner: Vimal Arion Achievers ( 8-6 )

Match 2: Aravali Polo vs Vimal Arion Achievers 

Date: 11 February 

The next day featured, for the first time, two formidable teams: Aravali Polo and Vimal Arion Achievers. Putting on an even closer display of a nerve-racking game, Aravali Polo pulled off an amazing win towards the end. Vimal Arion Achievers tried to get a hold of the match, but time wasn’t on their side. 

Winner: Aravali Polo ( 6-5 )

Match 3: Jaipur USPA vs Jindal Panthers

The second game between Jaipur USPA and Jindal Panthers ended in an anti-climax. The audience was waiting for a dramatic finish to the game when both teams were going back and forth with goals. In the end, both teams were so evenly matched that it had to end in a tie with five points each.

Winner: Game Tied ( 5 points each )

Match 4: Aravali Polo vs Delta Polo/V Polo

Date: 12 February 

Aravali Polo was back on the field to face Delta Polo/V Polo. In a dominating display of teamwork, Delta Polo was completely overtaken during the second half of the game. All their chances of a comeback were crushed as Aravali Polo left no openings for a goal to be scored. Hence, Aravali Polo was able to bag another game, looking to be a strong contender for the semis.

Winner: Aravali Polo ( 7-3 )

Match 5: Jindal Panthers vs Jaipur USPA 

The next game was a rematch of the third game, which ended in a tie. Jaipur USPA was up for the challenge and tried hard to cross the finish line, but Jindal Panthers had other plans. The latter team pushed forward with every ounce of strength in the latter half and amassed two extra goals to qualify for the semis.

Winner: Jindal Panthers ( 7-5 )

Semi-Final 1: Vimal Arion Achievers vs Jindal Panthers 

Date: 14 February 

The first semi-final game was between the Vimal Arion Achievers and Jindal Panthers teams. The Achievers’ team was all over the park with their gameplay and teamwork, smashing goals at regular intervals while excellently defending their goalposts. By the end of the last round, they finished with a huge four-point lead, becoming the first finalists.

Winner: Vimal Arion Achievers ( 7-3 )

Semi-Final 2: Aravali Polo vs Jaipur USPA 

The second semi-final game showcased talents from the Aravali Polo and Jaipur USPA teams. Another one of these close games brought the audience to their feet. Jaipur USPA showcased exceptional grit and determination, but time sided with Aravali Polo.

Winner: Aravali Polo ( 7-6 )

Final: Aravali Polo vs Vimal Arion Achievers 

Date: 16 February 

A day went by in a flash, and it was time for the highly coveted finale between Aravali Polo and Vimal Arion Achievers to occur. The stage was set for both teams to shine, but only one could come out on top. Vimal Arion Achievers continued their good form and started to dominate in the latter part of the game, scoring just over half a dozen points, and became the champions of the Sirmour Cup.
