FIP World Polo Championship returns to USA after 24 years
The 2022 XII Federation of International Polo (FIP) World Polo Championship is all set to take the field on fire at Palm Beach County, Florida, USA. The tournament exudes a nostalgic feel as the USA host the FIP World Polo Championship for the second time after a 24-year hiatus.
The star-studded polo World Cup 2022 is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 6 and will host eight countries representing the top 10 to 14-goal teams worldwide. The polo world will witness the clash of mounts and mallets as the Octagon of Quads rides its way for the highest honour in the International Polo Champions. For the first time, ESPN will broadcast the FIP World Polo Championship Semi-finals and Finals being played at Wellington, Florida – the world’s Winter Equestrian capital.
The remarkable feature of the XII FIP World Polo Championship is the 176 exceptional equestrian breeds of horses with top standards in the world from the horse provider J5 Equestrian. The organizational workhorse behind the success of the Valiente Polo Team, J5 solemnly resolves and caters to the hospitality demands of curating and breeding top horses in the world.

The FIP World Polo Championship is held every 3-4 years. Out of eight teams, 2 teams–the host nation, the USA – and defending Champions, Argentina, 5-times World Champion–automatically qualified for the tournament. However, the road to the FIP World Polo Championship begins with 5 Zone Playoffs. These 5 zones are as follows:-
Zone A – North & Central America
Zone B – South America
Zone C – Europe
Zone D – Asia & Oceania
Zone E – Pakistan, India, Africa
Zone Playoffs are as listed:-
Zone A – Queretaro, Mexico (March 27- April 3)
Zone B – Punta del Este, Uruguay (late January or early February)
Zone C – Chantilly, France (April 30- May 8)
Zone D – TBA
Zone E – TBA
After Zone C playoffs, Spain and Italy advanced to the FIP World Polo Championships after beating France, Germany, and Switzerland in the playoffs at Polo Chantilly and thus they joined Argentina, USA, Mexico, and Uruguay with only 2 more qualifiers until the 2022 Championship.

The Polo World Cup 2022 is hosted under the patronage of The United States Polo Association, US Polo Assn, the official brand of the USPA, The International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC) and Valiente Polo Farm. “We are extremely proud to host the 2022 XII FIP World Polo Championship and welcome teams from all over the world to Wellington, Florida, for the first time in the tournament’s history,” said USPA Chairman Stewart Armstrong.

Last hosted by the United States in 1998 at Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club in Carpinteria, California, the 2022 tournament comes with high expectations after being deferred for two years on account of Covid-19.
