Padmanabh Singh, prowess as a polo prince

A young overachiever, his contributions to the growth of Polo in his own state and country are numerous. HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur was recently named captain of the Indian Polo team for the World Cup 2022, following his participation in the 2017 World Cup. His dedication to the sport and culture of polo is evident and is reflected in his ideals of a sportsperson, which are highlighted by his strong devotion to the team, his people, and his patriotism for the sport and the country.

The HH Maharaja Sawai Padmanabh Singh of Jaipur has been crowned twice at the La Polo Indian Polo Awards. Earlier being embarked as The Young Polo Player of 2021, this year the Maharaja and a devotee Polo Player was crowned as the Most Valuable Polo Player of 2022.

The family's legacy is beautifully etched in the polo grounds' specks of dust. HH's great-grandfather, As quoted from the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, “Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II of Jaipur (1912- 1970), was a nine-goal player who led the famous Royal Jaipur Team to an unbeaten streak by winning all open tournaments in the United Kingdom and the Indian Championship in succession from 1930 to 1938. In 1957, he led the Indian Polo Team to the World Championship in Deauville, France”.

Also, “Maharaja Padmanabh Singh's grandfather, Maharaja Sawai Bhawani Singh, was a great Polo player and international promoter of the game, serving as a founding member and ambassador of the Federation of International Polo (FIP). He also gave the World Cup Trophy, which is now known as the FIP Jaipur World Cup Trophy. Padmanabh's father, Maharaj Narendra Singh, is also an ambassador for India to the FIP and is involved in a number of initiatives both in India and abroad”.

He was a key figure in the tournament that spanned India from Delhi to Jaipur and Jodhpur, where he was named the most valuable polo player for the second year in a row. While competing in matches in Germany, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Abu Dhabi, the United States, and Thailand, the Maharaja has blown away international audiences with his accurate blows and beveled shots.

Maharaja Padmanabh Singh was named the Most Valuable Polo Player by the British Polo Day Tournaments. In Abu Dhabi, he was also given the same title. Playing in professional polo matches since 2015, he is now promoted to a handicap of two goals.  The Maharaja of Jaipur has also represented the Jaipur Polo Team at the level of 15 goals in the United Kingdom. Padmanabh Singh was honored with an extraordinary opportunity to play a charity polo match with HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, at Cirencester Polo Club. Following this accomplishment, he was named the youngest player to ever win the Indian Open Championship in the sport of Polo.
