Introduction to Jodhpur Royalty

Located at the onset of the Thar desert is a beautiful city known as Jodhpur. Due to its hot climate and sunny days, the city is sometimes referred to as "Sun City" and has served as the home of the Marwar royal family. Rao Jodha built a city after a sage advised him to reside atop a rugged hill known as the bird's nest, known as Jodhpur.

Raj Rajeshwar Maharajadhiraja Shri Hanwant Singh Rathore was the ruler of the Jodhpur state when India got independence. However, he died at the young age of 28 together with his second wife, Zubedia, in a plane crash. Gaj Singh, the youngest of his three children and only son, succeeded him when he was four years old.

He was sent to England at the age of 8 for his education where he graduated from Oxford University with degrees in philosophy, politics, and economics. To carry out his obligations as Maharaja of Jodhpur, he returned to his own country in 1970. He married Hemalata Rajye, the daughter of the Raja of Poonch, in less than three years. Shivranjani Rajye, a daughter, and Shivraj Singh, a son, are the names of the couple's two children. Yuvraj Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur

The future successor to the throne, he was born in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, on September 30, 1975. His father introduced him to Polo, and he continued playing throughout high school and college. Everyone exhaled in relief when Dr. PPS Mathur, the SMS hospital's superintendent, revealed that Shivraj Singh Rathore of Jodhpur health had been responding to external stimuli and had been opening his eyes frequently; his pupils were normal; his limbs were functioning; and that the operation would not be required to remove the blood clot. Someone once said that just as the morning appears when the night is at its darkest, so too does happiness arrive after a period of difficulty. On March 10, 2010, five years after the fatal incident, the royal prince—also known as the most eligible bachelor—announced his engagement to Gayatri Kumari Pal, shattering many hearts.

Royalty from all over the world, including the Rothschilds, Mick Jagger, Sting, Duchess of York, royals from Nepal, Oman, Bhutan, Patiala, Tripura, and Kasmri, along with the Scindias, Holkars, and Gaekwads, as well as top B-town celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Kabir Bedi, Moon Moon Sen, Shobha De, and others, together with political stalwarts like Union minister Jaswant Sinha, Union Minister Jyotiaditynath Scindia, Dame Judi Dench, Bina Kak, and others graced the occasion. Shivraj Singh Rathore of Jodhpur also invited a number of renowned medical professionals who were involved in his care from around the globe.

Following the groom, the "Nishan ka Hathi" or royal elephant led the procession with the Jodhpur family's emblems. The cavalry then led the band of traditional "manganiyar" and langa folk musicians, which was then followed by the horses from the royal stables and the lavajma with the royal band of Jodhpur. The royal flag and the royal emblem were also part of the lavajma. The groom, who arrived in a typical buggy of Bollywood style and was dressed in a stunning traditional outfit with complete ceremonial regalia, was followed by this entire procession. The driver and one other person rode in the buggy with Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur, who grinned at the cheering audience and acknowledged their pleasantries.  In 2011, Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur was blessed with a baby girl and with Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur's son in 2015.

The 23rd Jodhpur Polo Season, which began on December 6, 2022, and its finals at the Maharaja Gaj Singh Sports Foundation Polo Ground on December 31, 2022, are now being played by his team, adding to the illustrious history of Polo in Jodhpur.

India's Polo tradition has been anchored by the Rathores family. Maharaja Gaj Singh II has taken a deep interest in the equestrian sport and fostered an ambition to re-establish Jodhpur as a prominent center of Polo and other sports, despite the numerous social, cultural, and financial commitments of his royal highness. Yuvraj Shivraj Singh of Jodhpur, the successor, has performed all over the world, including in England, Australia, Europe, Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt, and Switzerland.

The father-son duo's goal of re-establishing Jodhpur's significance in equestrian sports, particularly Polo, appears to be succeeding. With players, customers, and businesses all anticipating the Most Happening Season each year, Jodhpur Polo is gradually establishing itself as the "Mecca" of Indian polo.
