HH Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan made his debut at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club on Friday.
The ‘Annual Amal Polo Day’ charity event at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club saw the Ghantoot Rival teams, Ghantoot A and Ghantoot B play against each other on the charity day. The charity event was organised to raise awareness and funds for children with special needs. HH Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan made his debut at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club on Friday. He featured in the thrilling 5 - 5 draw between the rival teams, Ghantoot A and Ghantoot B teams, which was played on the annual Al Amal Polo day charity event. The Al Amal Polo day charity event, an initiative that attempts to raise awareness and build support for children with special needs. The event was staged under the banner of Year of Zayed.
HH Sheikh Tahnoon Bin Khalifa Bin Mohammed Al Nahyan led Ghantoot A Polo team. The rest of the players in the team were Faris Al Yabhouni, Ali Al Marri and Martin Donovan. Ghantoot B polo team had Ahmed Bin Desmal, Yousaf Bin Desmal, Nasser Al Shamsi and Bautista Begueerie. Faris Al Yabhouni scored Ghantoot A’s first goal. Yousaf Bin Desmal and Bautista Begueerie gave Ghantoot B the edge as the game progressed in front of a enthralled crowd at the UAE’s only Royal Polo Club.
Al Yabhouni scored a goal to level the game at 3 - 3 in the second chukker. The game could swing in either side as both the teams gave a great competition to each other. Both the teams were pleased to settle for a 5 - 5 draw after Al Yabhouni scored his third goal to emerge as the top scorer. “It was a game the everyone expected, tough and competitive,” he said. “I think the draw was a fair result.”
The event was organized under the patronage of HH Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, who is one of the major supporters of polo in the UAE. The event was sponsored by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, Maserati Premier Sports, Holiday Group - Golden Tulip Al Jazeera.
Mr Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Managing Director, Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, thanked the players for delivering an entertaining match.
