Jimmy Choo the most expensive footwear and accessory brand, file a case against Jerry Chu, a fashion design student in Central Saint Martins, China
The report is filed against Jerry chu’s attempt of launching the business with the name Jerry chu which might create confusion with Jimmy Choo’s brand. The report asks to invalidate chu’s trademark as Jimmy Choo being a global brand has a gimlet-eye on their trademark security. The following attempt may also lead to “trademark infringement” which is unlawful when it comes to the US where trademarks must be used in commerce, only then they are valid.
The student at Fashion Law Institute at Fordham University's School of Law, Susan Scafidi puts forward that such disputes are very common to have with independent designer coming in trend. Legally its the trademark owners responsibility to manage his trademark rights and laws.
